The Hemachala Lakshmi Narasimha Temple

The Hemachala Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple is located in Mallur, Warangal district, Telangana. The temple is over 4000 years old and has stood the test of time. It is located 1500 ft. over sea level, on top of a mountain and devotees have to climb around 150 steps before finally seeing the divine idol. The temple is located amidst lush greenery and the silence in the hills makes it a sought-after place for spiritual seekers who wish to meditate and pray in peace and devotees who climb the stairs to seek Narasimha Swami’s blessings.

The mystery of the idol

The heart of the temple is the idol of Lord Narasimha which is no less than a marvel and a wonder. What sets this idol apart from others is the soft texture of Lord Narasimha's idol. So much so that it is said that if you press the idol, an indent forms in his skin, and if you poke too hard blood starts to ooze out of him. As the idol bleeds from time to time, the pujari and priests over there constantly cover Lord Narasimha’s idol with sandalwood paste to stop the bleeding.
Legend has it that this idol is a ‘Swayambhu’ or something that appeared from the underground itself.

About Narasimha Dev

Lord Narasimha is hailed and worshipped as the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. While Lord Vishnu generally has a calm, composed posture and serenity in his eyes, Lord Narasimha is his ferocious form. When Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of a half-man, half-lion to protect his devotee, Prahlada, he took the Narasimha avatar. He protected a devotee, Prahlad, from Hiranyakashyap (an evil force), instilling faith and courage in devotees facing problems in life.

Murti puja in Hinduism

Idol worship or Murti puja is a traditional custom in Hinduism. Hindus believe that God can be manifested in many forms and allow his devotees to connect with him. Practices like Murti sthapana, Pran Pratishtha and the like serve as mediums through which people can express their love, devotion, and reverence towards the Gods. The act of worshipping Murtis and deities is much beyond just a symbol, for so many people it is a routine and a way of life. It is the source through which they stay closer to their faith and God.
From the Shiv ling in Kedarnath to the Narasimha idol in Telangana and the Murti of Ganesh ji in Siddhi Vinayak to Maa Kamakhya in Assam, deities and the power associated with them are of great importance to Hindus all over the world.
