Naga Panchami, celebrated in India on August 9, is the day to venerate and worship the 'Serpent' God. Nagas, which means snake or serpent, are held in high regards all across India, and are worshipped as no less than a deity. The Naga holds a place not just on Lord Shiva's neck, but also on the bed of Lord Vishnu.
From Shesha Naag, to Vasuki, serpents are not merely animals in Hindu beliefs, but in many ways are equivalent to Gods. And so, to honour these serpents, we have the Naga Panchami on the 5th day of Shravana.

On Naga Panchami 2024, Sadhguru had a message for the world and the devotees who came from all across India to meditate upon Naga devta, the serpent God.
In his address, Sadhguru says - "Naga is not just form, but a sacred connection with the deeper dimensions of creation. The Naga is the link to know and explore the mysteries of existence."

Then, talking about the how and where the Naga is worshipped and held in high regards, Sadhguru said "Wherever people sought mysticism, there you can find a snake image. And the Indo-Asian region is the most active in the serpent culture."

Talking about the celebrations, Sadhguru joked how some people would freak out if they witness Naga Panchami in India as people hold even the most venomous snakes in their hand and will walk casually all day with those snakes. And he then went on to explain how big organisations use snakes and serpents to detect earthquakes and problems that might arise in Nature.

Giving the example of a Cobra, he defined how although they lack hearing, they sense the reverberations of the Earth and thus become in sync with the powers that it holds.

Sadhguru then moves on to the topic of a human's 'Reptilian' brain and how every function works correctly when in sync with the reptilian part of the brain.
He says that the Naga veneration across the world is the need and want of people to transcend the physiological compulsions that we have.

And on the day of Naga Panchami, the people who live close to Isha Sannidhi, Bangalore, offered milk or 'Ksheera' to the Naga as a way of obtaining his blessings. Rituals were conducted in traditional ways and people engaged in dhyaan.
Also on the occassion of Naga Panchami, as a way to give back to the community, Sadhguru organised a 3 day Jatra (village fair) where people will be able to showcase their handicrafts, their arts, and other specialities.
