Shani Dev's day

People all around the world believe in various rituals and practices to ward off bad luck or invite good fortune. In many beliefs, not buying certain things on a Saturday is one. The idea revolves around the premise that buying certain things on a Saturday can bring bad luck. While these beliefs may seem irrational to some, they are held in great belief by many others.
Saturdays are associated with the planet Saturn and in India, Lord Shani, as per Hindu religion. In many cultures, it is considered a day of restraint and caution. Thus, here we list five objects or things that one should not buy on a Saturday to avoid bad luck.

Black shoes

While black shoes are a must-wear for people going to the office, they are often considered an inauspicious item to purchase or wear on Saturdays. In many cultures, shoes are symbolic of one's journey through life and the paths one takes. Buying shoes on a Saturday is believed to symbolize a negative or challenging path ahead.
Additionally, according to several beliefs, wearing black shoes to work on a Saturday can lead to hindrances in your personal growth and promotions at work.

3/6

Black clothes

In Hindu religion, wearing black is often associated with mourning and funerals. It is also discouraged to wear black to happy events or celebrations as it is said to bring in bad luck. Thus, many cultures discourage the purchase of black clothing on Saturdays, as it is believed to invite sorrow and misfortune. In some cases, people fear that buying black clothing on a Saturday may lead to the loss of a loved one or other personal tragedies.

4/6

Knives and sharp objects

Another object which is discouraged from buying or using on Saturdays are knives, scissors, and sharp objects. The belief around purchasing knives or sharp objects on Saturdays is rooted in the idea that these items can bring conflict into one's life. In various cultures, it is believed that buying knives on this day can lead to disputes, accidents, or injuries within the family. People avoid purchasing sharp objects on Saturdays to maintain cordial relationships with friends and family.

5/6

Oil

While donating oil to temples on Saturday is encouraged, buying mustard oil or vegetable oil is looked down upon by elders. It is believed that buying oil on Saturday can bring in bad health, and sickness or bring up unfavourable conditions that can eventually make you sick.
With respect to donating, some people are also advised to donate food made in Mustard oil to improve health conditions.

6/6

Ink

Yes, you read that right. Additional inks for pens should not be purchased on a Saturday, especially by people or students who are gearing up for an exam. According to many astrologers, buying ink on a Saturday is considered inauspicious and it can lead to loss or failure. Many also recommend not signing any important documents or agreements on Saturdays, especially with blue ink.
