Temples of Lord Hanuman

Lord Hanuman, the epitome of devotion, strength, discipline, and positivity, is a devotee before he is a God. He spent his life devoted to Lord Ram, Maa Sita, and Lord Lakshman, and helped them through the war of Lanka, before that, and also after Lord Ram became the rightful King again. It is said today that Lord Hanuman lives close to Earth, helping the devotees who call his name in need, and attending every Ram katha, being devoted to Shri Ram.
And if you wish to connect with the energies of Lord Hanuman, here are 7 temples one must visit.

Shri Bade Hanuman temple in Prayagraj

Located in Prayagraj, near Triveni Sangam, is the Bade Hanuman Mandir, where Lord Hanuman is in the sleeping position, almost as if he is at rest.
In this temple, the idol of Lord Hanuman is simply massive, about 20 feet long, and reclining into the ground. During the rainy season, the temple gets submerged in Ganga water, and it is said that Maa Ganga bathes Lord Hanuman. Another legend says that when returning from Lanka, when Lord Hanuman got tired, he rested in the land of Prayagraj for a while, and thus he is in a reclining position.

Hanuman Dhara in Chitrakoot

In the Hanuman Dhara temple, in Chitrakoot, people now reach the mandir on the ropeway, and pray to Lord Hanuman to remove all the ills and evils from their life.
One unique thing about the Hanuman Dhara temple is that a natural stream flows over the idol of Lord Hanuman in the temple, but no one knows where the stream comes from and originates. The priests and locals say that when Lord Hanuman came here after burning Lanka, the stream was made by Lord Ram to cool him down.

Sankat Mochan temple in Varanasi

In Varanasi, one of the most crowded temples of Lord Hanuman is the Sankat Mochan temple. In this temple, it is believed that Lord Hanuman takes away any ills and troubles of his devotees, and whoever comes to the temple with devotion and love, finds calm and peace.
The temple is surrounded with greenery, prasad shops, and even toys. Lord Hanuman’s idol here is a deep orange colour, and his eyes look like they are calling the devotees to him.

Bedi Hanuman temple in Puri

Located close to the Jagannath temple in Puri is the Bedi Hanuman temple. This temple has one of the most interesting stories where it is said that Lord Hanuman was chained by Lord Jagannath here when he tried to leave the city.
Legends say that Lord Hanuman was given the task of protecting the people of Puri from the waves of the sea, but he used to leave his place and go visit Lord Ram every few days. Angry, Lord Jagannath chained him to the temple so that he would always protect the people.

Balaji Hanuman temple in Rajasthan

A temple where Lord Hanuman is shown with a moustache and beard is the Balaji temple in Rajasthan. Lord Hanuman is in his orange form and on his face are large, soulful, and expressive eyes, and moustache and beard like a human being.

Hanuman Garhi in Ayodhya

Located close to the Ram temple in Ayodhya is the Hanuman Garhi. A beautiful temple from the inside out, Lord Hanuman is here under a silver ‘chhatr’ (umbrella) and is always covered with flowers, especially Marigolds. Around him are his ‘Gadas’, divine weapon that he carried to fight off evil and Asuras.
To reach Hanuman Garhi, devotees have to climb about 76 stairs before having Hanuman ji’s darshan.
