Tulsi Vivah 2024

Tulsi Vivah is a beautiful Hindu ritual that is celebrated all across India. It is the union of Lord Shaligram, a form of Lord Vishnu, and Vrinda, in the form of Maa Tulsi. Tulsi Vivah is usually done on the day of Devuthani Ekadashi, and some others do it on the day after Devuthani Ekadashi, which is usually observed in October or November.
This year, Tulsi Vivah will be celebrated on November 12, and November 13, according to different regions and traditions, and can be done inside homes or in temples.

And so, if you too are planning to celebrate Tulsi Vivah, here are some things to do and keep in mind.

2/7

Keep a Tulsi leaf in your wallet

The day of Tulsi Vivah is extremely holy and pure, and the energy of Maa Tulsi brings happiness, wealth, and prosperity to all. And so, one thing to do on the day is to carry a Tulsi leaf in your wallet or keep it in the vault in your home or closet. In Hindu beliefs, Tulsi leaves are known to carry powerful spiritual energy, and keeping a leaf in your wallet is thought to invite the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.

3/7

Confirm the Muhurat

Another important point to remember and keep in mind is to consult the family priest or a priest from the nearby temple about the Muhurat to perform the rituals of Tulsi Vivah. One cannot, and should not perform the rituals according to their whims and fancies, or at whatever time they are free and wish to get done with the puja.

Consult a temple priest beforehand, and keep the preparations done before time.

4/7

Watering

On the day of Tulsi Vivah, it is best to water the plant with Gangajal, as it is believed to increase the energy and positivity of the space. Plus, as Gangajal holds a significant place in Hindu traditions, and is seen as a symbol of purity, auspiciousness, and divine energy, watering the Tulsi plant with it helps keep the surroundings pure and positive too.

5/7

Shopping list

In your shopping list for Tulsi Vivah, make sure to add a red chunni, or a cloth. On Tulsi Vivah, it is important to adorn the Tulsi plant as a bride, and one important part of this tradition is to drape around a new red chunni over the plant.
For Hindus, the colour red is a symbol of new beginnings, auspiciousness, prosperity, and marital bliss.

6/7

Don’t cut or prune the plant

Another thing to remember is that on the day of Tulsi Vivah, it is considered wrong and inauspicious to cut and prune the plant. In fact, it is also believed that one should not pluck the leaves of the Tulsi plant on this day without rightful intentions. As Tulsi Vivah is the day of Maa Tulsi’s marriage to Lord Vishnu, it is important to treat and care for her with utmost respect and gentleness.

7/7

Do mantra chanting

When performing Tulsi Vivah, it is good to chant some mantras dedicated to Maa Tulsi and Lord Ganesha. As you adorn Maa Tulsi with chunni, henna, and more, while doing so you can keep chanting some mantras to infuse the air around you with positivity and love. And when the family priest starts the rituals and prayer, recite mantras along with him after asking him for the right ones.If you are just visiting a temple for Tulsi Vivah, chant simple mantras like ‘Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya’ or ‘Om Tulsi Krishna Preyasayai Namaha’.
