Changing job trends in India

A New Year brings with it a fresh start and revived aspirations to find a new job with better perks. Noticing this, LinkedIn India recently shared a list of the top 25 jobs that are in demand in India in 2024. According to the data shared by LinkedIn India, nearly 88% of Indian professionals are looking for a job change in 2024. Not just this, even the skill sets for jobs have drastically changed in the last few years.

"The world of work is changing — from how and where we get our jobs done to the skills needed to get ahead. In fact, new research from LinkedIn shows that skill sets for jobs have changed 25% since 2015 and are projected to shift by 65% by 2030 globally. Meanwhile, the acceleration of artificial intelligence and automation have created new opportunities and challenges for professionals and companies alike looking to prepare for the future," reads a report by LinkedIn.

Closing Manager

Closing Managers work for clients who are interested in real estate projects. Their duties range from site visits, follow-ups, documentation, and striking deals. Skills needed for this job role include closing (real estate), sales and marketing, and negotiation. People with previous experience as a Sales Manager, Sourcing Manager, and Relationship Manager have often shifted to this role.

Influencer Marketing Specialist

Influencer Marketing Specialists figure out and work on campaigns related to influencers and social media partners which helps the latter boost their brand visibility and audience engagement. Some of the common skills needed for this role are Influencer Marketing, Social Media Marketing, and Digital Marketing. People with experience working as Marketing Executives, Campaign Managers, and Social Media Marketing Specialist have mostly switched to this role in the last few years.

Design Specialists work in different mediums including digital and print. Skills needed for this role are: Recruiting, Sourcing, and Screening Resumes. As per LinkedIn, people with experience working as Sales Specialist, Talent Acquisition Specialist, and Business Development Executive have often transitioned to this role.

Other jobs that are on the rise in India this year include Sales Development Representative, Demand Generation Associate, Customs Officer, Growth Manager, Investor Relations Manager, Political Analyst, Delivery Consultant, Client Advisor, Creative Strategist, Chief Revenue Officer, Campaign Associate, Sustainability Manager, Customer Success Executive, Media Buyer, Quantitative Developer, Fund Analyst, Proposal Writer, Product Security Engineer, Building Information Modelling (BIM) Technician, and Insights Analyst.

Results of the survey

For the survey, 1,097 professionals who either worked full-time or part-time in India were approached. The duration of the survey was from November 24 to December 12. For figuring the jobs on the rise, jobs posted by LinkedIn members between January 1, 2019, to July 31, 2023, were considered and the growth rate for these jobs was studied. Jobs that had similar titles or roles and different seniority levels were clubbed and ranked together.

"People are looking for better work-life balance (42%) and higher wages (37%). They are also willing to explore new career paths with almost 8 in 10 Indian professionals saying they are looking for opportunities outside of their industry or role... (However) Most recruiters in India are planning to grow their workforce in 2024 and are looking at learning intent and work experience. 76% of recruiters want to hire people with the exact same experience as the role they are hiring for, as compared to hiring candidates with transferable skills," reads a report by ET.
