However, no matter how difficult it might be to find a new job, yet it does not deter people from looking for it. According to statistics from Monster.com, one of the most popular global employment websites, the number of job applications from users increases by 75 per cent in January, making it one of the most popular months for people to look for a job.

What is it about January that makes people look for new professional opportunities? We were amazed by this revelation and we talked to a few human resources specialists to know the reason behind this. According to them, there are many reasons, including job dissatisfaction, year-end resolutions etc. which lead people to hunt for jobs in January.

For most people, January is the month to start something afresh. When a year ends, most people have the tendency to evaluate what went right and what not and if they are unhappy in the current job, the beginning of a new year offers the perfect opportunity to change that.

The most important factor behind a person’s decision to hunt for a new job in January is purely economical. For organisations whose financial year is counted from January to December, people wait till they get their annual bonus before calling it quits. The same holds true for people who work in a place where the financial year is counted from April to March because if they start looking for a job in January, they have higher chances of getting a job before the financial year ends in March and they can collect their bonus before submitting their resignation.

Since most people are looking for jobs in January, the chances of getting the right opportunity become lesser because of the increased number of competitors. So, you need to prepare for the journey that lies ahead in your job search.

While most of us know the importance of keeping an updated resume, only a few realise how important it is to customize a resume as per the job description. You cannot send the same resume to two different employers asking for specific jobs. The best option is to keep updating your resume and customize it as per the need.

We live in an age where skills matter the most and there is always something new to learn. It is essential to learn new skills and upgrade your educational experiences. The more new abilities you have, the higher is the chance to get a job.

We all know how difficult it is to find a dream job. Just applying for one doesn’t mean you will get it. Given the current rate of unemployment in India, do not be disheartened if you don’t get a job as soon as you try for it. Patience and perseverance should be your mantra.
