Meghan Markle slammed for being "instant Beyoncé or instant Michelle Obama" by Royal biographer-- Here's why
Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle quit their roles as senior members of the UK royal family and moving to their Montecito home in the US, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are much in the spotlight. The royal couple moved to the US in 2020, and have since then given glimpses of their lives to the public-- either through Meghan's explosive interview, or Harry's bomshell autobiograhy. More recently, Meghan also ventured into multiple businesses-- be it her lifestyle show 'With Love, Meghan' with Netflix, the launch of her lifestyle brand 'As Ever', or her new podcast 'Confessions of a Female Founder'.
However, it looks like her multiple business ventures have not gone down well with royal biographer Tina Brown. The latter slammed Meghan Markle for being "enormously shallow", and for "monetizing the monarchy" with her businesses.
Speaking on the Mixed Signals for Semafor Media podcast, Tina Brown remarked about Meghan Markle, “Her problem is that she’s so ADD. She constantly makes announcements but rarely follows through.” She likened Markle’s career to a whirlwind of unfinished ideas: “A cooking show one minute, then a podcast, then a beauty line. Just do one thing, do it well, and then move on.”
Brown went on to call the Duchess’s business model “panic-stricken,” suggesting that it stems from a lack of clear direction or confidence. “It’s as though she’s trying to become an instant Beyoncé or Michelle Obama without the foundational journey those women took,” she said.
Markle’s digital storefront, which followed closely on the heels of her podcast release, has already drawn accusations of “monetizing the monarchy.”
But, despite the criticisms, Brown did acknowledge Markle’s influence on people-- considering that she is still a royal. “She’s not bad at what she does. When she wears something, it sells out. That means she clearly resonates with a large audience.”
Brown concluded by noting that public opinion on Markle remains polarizing. “There are Meghan lovers and Meghan haters. The palace barely acknowledges her anymore—it’s like she’s vanished. And to me, the real tragedy is what all of this means for Harry.”
