Happy Krishna Janmashtami 2025: Best Janmashtami wishes and messages to share with your colleagues, employees, friends and family
Shri Krishna, the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu, is one of the most revered and beloved Gods in Hinduism. And so, Krishna Janmashtami-- which is the birth of Shri Krishna also called Janmashtami-- is celebrated with much love and fervour by his devotees across the world. It is believed that Shri Krishna was born on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the dark fortnight (Krishna Paksha) in the month of Bhadrapada as per the Hindu calendar. This day usually falls in August or September in the Gregorian calendar and it holds deep spiritual significance for many devotees the world over.
This year Janmashtami is being celebrated on August 26, 2025. According to the website Drik Panchang, the “5252nd Birth Anniversary of Lord Krishna, Krishna Janmashtami, is on Saturday, August 16, 2025."
Janmashtami is celebrated with great fervour and devotion by devotees. They start the day by waking up early, bathing and cleaning the house, decorating the house, fasting and preparing Lord Krishna's favourite dishes and bhog. In the evening, devotees pray and sing bhajans about Krishna until midnight; this is also the time when devotees break their fast. It is believed that Shri Krishna was born at midnight, and so his birth is celebrated at night. The image or idol of baby Krishna is then placed in a cradle or jhoola, which symbolises his birth.

The day after Janmashtami is celebrated as the “Dahi Handi” event. In this tradition, young men dress up as Gopalas and form human pyramids to break a pot of curd or butter hung high in the air, re-enacting Krishna and his friends' playful attempts to steal butter as a child.
The festival is not just a time for celebration, but also for reflection and remembering Lord Krishna's timeless teachings. Devotees celebrate it by chanting Krishna’s name, singing devotional songs, and reading his teachings in the holy Bhagavad Gita. Janmashtami is a reminder of Lord Krishna’s teachings, emphasising the importance of righteousness, duty, love and devotion in one's life, and the victory of good over evil.
