At 71, he became a Chartered Accountant— All thanks to his granddaughter’s homework
It's often said that age is just a number, and rightly so! The news of a 71-year-old man becoming a Chartered Accountant (CA) by clearing the coveted exams has not only warmed people's hearts, but also surprised many.
While most people in their 70s are settling into retirement and leisurely routines, one man from Jaipur decided to chase his dream— and pass one of the toughest exams in India. Meet Tara Chand Agarwal, a 71-year-old retired banker who just became a Chartered Accountant (CA). Yes, you read that right! After retiring from the State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur (SBBJ), Agarwal could have easily spent his time relaxing. But destiny had other plans— ones that started quite humbly, right at home.
According to a heartwarming LinkedIn post by CA Nikhilesh Kataria, Agarwal’s incredible journey began while helping his granddaughter study for her CA exams. What started as a supportive grandfather lending a hand with her studies turned into something much bigger. As he helped her revise chapters and solve problems, Agarwal found himself drawn deeper into the subject. Curiosity sparked passion, and soon, he made the bold decision to sit for the exams himself.
And now, after years of hard work and unshakable dedication, Tara Chand Agarwal has officially earned the CA title— proving that it’s never too late to chase your dreams and learn something new in life.
Kataria praised the achievement on social media, calling it a story that shows “where there is a will, there is a way.” The post quickly went viral, with users across the internet celebrating Agarwal’s determination. Many commented on how his success had restored their faith in lifelong learning. “Inspiring,” “unbelievable,” and “legend” were just some of the words used to describe him.
While Agarwal’s achievement was stealing hearts online, the CA Final Examination 2025 results also made headlines. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) released the results on July 6, revealing that Ranjan Kabra from Maharashtra topped the exam with a whopping 516 out of 600 marks— an outstanding 86%! He secured All India Rank 1, followed by Nishtha Bothra (AIR-2) and Manav Rakesh Shah (AIR-3).
In total, 14,247 candidates cleared the final hurdle and earned the title of Chartered Accountant this year. The exams were conducted from May 16 to May 24.
But among all those names, Tara Chand Agarwal’s story stands out—not for the marks, but for the message: dreams don’t have an expiry date.
