All Punjabi brides experience a mehendi ceremony and sangeet, where henna is applied on their hands & feet while their friends and family dance & sing.

This ritual takes place in the morning of the wedding day, where a sacred thread is tied on the bride’s wrist to ward off evil. Then a havan takes place where the maternal uncle gifts 21 bangles to the bride.
After the chooda ceremony is completed, the golden dangling kaleeras are tied to the bride’s bangles. The bride is supposed to shake off the kaleeras over unmarried people and if a piece falls on them, it is said that they will get married next.

This ceremony takes place a day before or in the morning of the wedding where the bride and the groom are smeared with a mix of turmeric, sandalwood, and rosewater for that glow.

Post-haldi, the bride and her siblings go to a temple where they fill a “lota” or pitcher, with holy water and it is poured over the bride to seek God’s blessings.

Here the family of the groom and bride meet, the fathers meet, the mothers meet, the uncles meet each other.
This short and fun ceremony requires the bride and groom to exchange garlands.

The couple has to circle around the sacred fire seven times. The first three rounds are led by the bride and the rest by the groom.

The bride’s sisters hide the groom’s shoes and ask for a ransom if he wants them back after the wedding rituals are done. The groom pays a certain amount to free the shoes.
