keep these tips in mind

Workation is on and in case you have brought your dog along to the hills and take them out for a walk in the mountains, into the wild and unknown pastures, then here are some tips you must keep in mind.

2/6

Avoid livestock conflicts

If you are walking your dog in the mountains and you do not belong there, then try not to leave trails especially near pastures where other animals graze. Keep a minimum of 50 meter distance where the animals are grazing. Make sure your dog is trained enough to make loud noises or sudden movements because that scares the cattle, also, do not stare at the cows. Avoid crossing the fields and keep your dog on a short leash.

3/6

Beware of the dangers that cattle herds can pose

a. Cows and calves attack when dogs get between the cattle. Their natural instinct kicks in in order to protect their baby. If the cow is on heat, they are unpredictable and can be very dangerous.

b. Cattle feel unsettled when there is a presence of a dog. So walk slowly, both of you.

c. Do not use sticks unless it is about saving yourself.

4/6

Clean up after your pup

They poop and pee. So just like you have to clean up after them in the city, do the same when walking them in the mountains. The cattle graze there!

5/6

Know your dog’s limits

Walk your dog only in areas where your dog will be comfortable. Know their m]limits. If you think the area could have snakes, take another track. Make them jump heights that they can for sure. They could be scared of muddy water ,depending on your dog's personality. So respect that.

6/6

Carry food and water for them

Carry some treats, ample water and food for your pet. Like you like your snacks, they too would love to have something every now and then. Also, amid a hike, water is essential. So pack well before you.
