The Grammy-winning singer sparked engagement rumours when she appeared at the Avatar: Fire and Ash world premiere in Los Angeles on Dec. 1, wearing a stunning diamond ring. She was accompanied by her boyfriend of four years. Multiple outlets have since confirmed that the couple are engaged, and all eyes are on them. But who is Maxx Morando, the man who captured the heart of one of pop music's biggest stars? Let’s take a look.

He has an impressive music résumé

Morando, 27, has one hell of a music résumé. He is a drummer and multi-instrumentalist. While drums are his forte, in 2020, during an Instagram Live, Morando proved his guitar skills. Ever since he was a child, he was drawn towards the drums, which encouraged him to pursue a career in music. In 2015, he burst onto the radar as the drummer for The Regrettes, contributing to their debut album Feel Your Feelings Fool! After leaving the band in 2018, he joined forces with friends from music school to form Liily. He is currently a professional drummer for the Los Angeles-based rock band.

Gen Z and a cool guy

Born in 1998, Maxx Morando is Gen Z. Ever since he started dating Miley Cyrus, Morando has shown himself to be the “cool guy.” “He has no interest in being a huge celebrity; he's very low-key. Miley loves these qualities,” a source earlier told People. With him, the Grammy-winning singer can be herself. “They are supportive of each other's careers. Miley is enjoying life, and things are great.”

What is the age gap between Cyrus and Morando?

Maxx Morando is six years junior to Miley Cyrus. But the very subtle difference is what glues them together. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar in Nov. 2024, the singer said, “He looks at life really differently than I do.”

Talking about the slight generational differences in their upbringings, she added, “He grew up with a laptop. I had a desktop computer that I shared with my brothers and sisters. … Honestly, he’s raised our dog off Reddit. I’m like, Are you sure we’re supposed to be doing this? And he’s like, On Reddit it says blah, blah, blah.”

Despite these differences, they are quite similar. “He’s very similar to me. We just don’t take life too seriously,” she said.

How did he meet her?

Their meet-cute is straight out of a romcom. They met on a blind date in 2021. Talking to British Vogue in 2023, she said, “We got put on a blind date. Well, it was blind for me and not really for him. I thought, ‘The worst that can happen is I leave.’” Later that year, the couple were photographed together at the Gucci Love Parade show in Los Angeles. They stepped out together for the Disney Channel alum’s NBC special, Miley's New Year's Eve Party. Towards 2022, the couple were photographed getting cosy with each other.
