What is 'pocketing' in relationships?

Do you know about the term 'pocketing'?

Have you ever had doubts about your partner that they are hiding you from the world, or specifically their friends and family? This realisation isn’t unusual but may, in fact, be true. Your partner may be ‘pocketing’ you i.e., hiding you from the world rather than telling their friends and family about you. The term pocketing is in relation to how one puts their phone in their pocket; hence, the same way your partner is trying to keep you only to themselves and not want anyone else to know about you being their partner.

2/7

Pocketing is a red flag

Pocketing is a big-time red flag because when some pockets you, chances are high that they are unsure or skeptical about you or the relationship. And when people are sure about their partners, it is quite likely that they would show their partner off to the world. Here are some blatant signs that you are being pocketed in a relationship.

3/7

You always meet secretly

If you both are always meeting secretly and in out-of-town places so that no one can see you, your partner is trying to pocket you. This is because they don’t want to bump into someone they know and be seen with you.

4/7

They don’t want you to meet their friends

If your partner is pocketing you, they surely don’t want you to meet their friends. They will avoid situations where you might get to meet their friends. They could come up with reasons like they have no friends but this is unlikely in most cases.

5/7

They don’t post about you on social media

Social media is a place where you can share details about your life in a very fun and exciting manner. But if your partner refuses to do so and never posts about you on social media, then something is definitely wrong.

6/7

They don’t mention anything about their family

If your partner never reveals anything about their family, then they surely don’t want you meddling in their affairs as you should. Family is a very important aspect of everyone’s life so it is only fair that you know about your partner’s family.

7/7

You have no idea about where they live

If you have never been to their home or apartment, it is a big sign that they are pocketing you from their world. Your relationship only exists in a fantasy, only by the whims of your partner. They decide when, where and who to meet. You hardly get any say in the matter.
