Ways to ease your anxiety before breaking up with someone

Telling someone you’re about to break up with them isn’t really memorable. Initiating the breakup can be just as painful as being on the receiving end, with complex feelings of anxiety troubling your goals and vision. The thought of hurting your partner can involuntarily force you to stay with them, crippling your mind and the relationship with all sorts of negativity and slow toxicity. Hence, we bring to you some ways to ease your anxiety before you break up with your partner.

2/6

Be sure about why you want to breakup

If you’re getting super anxious before the ‘talk’ then it’s time to reflect upon your reasons for initiating the breakup. Listing down your reasons why you shouldn’t be with your partner anymore, will help you to stay decisive and also support any thoughts of regret in the future. You might miss your ex in the future too, so, rereading that list will help you focus on the good decision you made.

3/6

Seek support from others

Get your friends and close family members together. Tell them about your decision and if by any chance, you’re feeling indecisive, your close support system can help you evaluate the positive and negative prospects of the breakup. Conversing with people you’re close to will calm you down and help you focus on trusting your decision.

4/6

Be prepared

You don’t want to be in a situation where you’re dumbfounded when your partner throws questions about the breakup at you. And so, being prepared with a list of possible questions and answers about the dynamics of your relationship will help the breakup discussion be more rational than emotional. Carefully choosing your words will also ensure you’re not hurting your partner way too much.

5/6

Don’t falter, be confident

If it’s about making the best decision for you and your partner, then don’t have second thoughts about the breakup. You might feel your heart is telling you one thing while your mind directs you another. Don’t let your emotional feelings cloud your judgement.

6/6

Take deep breaths

Experts have always suggested that you take deep breaths to release any signs of stress or anxiety, especially during a stressful situation like a breakup. Controlling your breathing and focusing on the breathing patterns can reduce the built-up tension and give you a clearer perspective on how to approach the breakup.
