Things fathers-in-law want to tell their daughters-in-law but can't

The relationship between fathers-in-law and daughters-in-law is not discussed as often as we discuss mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law. It can be a very sweet relationship that involves love and concern but a lot of times fathers-in-law do not express a lot of things that go on in their head. We got four dads-in-law talking and here are some of their confessions

Don’t bother so much about your MIL

My wife is lovely, but she has always been overprotective as a mom. When she became a mother-in-law, she began intervening a bit too much and there is no denying that she has been very mean to my daughter-in-law. One day when my wife wasn’t home, I wanted to tell my daughter-in-law that just maintain respect, and listen to her but “do what your heart feels is right”. However, unfortunately, I could not. I wanted to tell my son’s wife, who has till now not once answered back, no matter what situation we have put her in, that I may not be able to take sides because that woman after her life is my wife, but I will always support her as long as she knows what she is doing.

What was she thinking?

My son is a spoiled brat and we always wished for him to find a partner who could fix him. We knew that our son did not deserve such an intelligent and independent woman, but how can I say anything. There have been so many instances when I have had this urge to ask my daughter-in-law “what was she thinking?” But, this is something I can never say out loud because, after all, he is my son and my wife may take it otherwise.

I want to go on a solo trip to Thailand

My son’s wife is a travel freak. She made sure that all of us get used to the fact that she likes her space and solo trips every year. She goes on treks, camping, etc. She even went paragliding and came back as this stronger woman with a different positive vibe. I personally have so many friends who told me that they have fun in Thailand and this includes sexual fun too. I may be in my 50s but my wife stopped having sex after our son turned 13. My physical needs were forced to take a backseat, but when my friends started narrating their experiences, those needs returned. My daughter-in-law is like a friend to me and so many times I have been wanting to ask her if she could chart out a plan for me in Thailand, but how do I tell her that it would be sans my wife? I have not uttered a word yet, but I hope I can someday and just go.

I don’t love my wife anymore

My daughter-in-law is a very cool person. By cool, I mean open-minded, strong as a personality, and a happy soul. There have been moments when she would understand my point of view in the house while the rest of the family members misunderstood me. My wife rarely gets me and when my son was getting married, I realised I don’t feel that love for my wife anymore. I want to talk to my daughter-in-law about this but…
