Signs you are comparing your ex with current partner

Signs you are comparing your ex with current partner

Once you have broken up with someone and moved onto another relationship, you must never compare your current partner with your ex. They are different people and you are not just insulting him/ her but also jeopardizing your relationship. However, many unconsciously do draw a comparison between the two and here are some signs that you have been doing so.

2/6

The checklist

Do you have a checklist of what your partner should be all about? He/ she used to behave like this or do what you liked and now you feel your current should do the same? That is drawing comparisons which is completely unhealthy.

3/6

Trying to anticipate reactions

Even before they have answered or reacted to what you have to say, if you have been presuming how they might react on the basis of your past experience then that is a red flag. You may have been betrayed or hurt by your ex but that does not mean that the current would do it too. You need to trust again.

4/6

Saying “he/she was the same”

Okay, your partner did something similar to what your ex would do but firstly, you do not say it out loud and secondly, it does not mean that the ex and current are the same. You need to stop making any comparison and move on.

5/6

What if I run into my ex

If you are in a new relationship and yet you are thinking what you'd do if you run into the ex, you are drawing a comparison! How? You may be subconsciously trying to prove how your current partner is better than your ex and makes him/ her feel jealous if you ever bump into the person.

6/6

He/ she understood me better

Now this is unfair. Each person is different and so is the chemistry and camaraderie. Your ex must have understood you but he is an ex for a reason right? And this new person in your life must have done something right to be in your present. Create new memories with your current partner, do something different. It takes time but eventually your current will also understand you well if you open up to them.
