Rahu is one of the nine planets in Vedic Astrology. It was formed at the point of intersection of Earth and Moon orbit while revolving around the Sun. This point of meeting in the north pole is called Rahu (ascending node). The same point in the south pole is called Ketu (descending node). When your Rahu is not fine, it can have major effects on your personal life with dishonesty, miscommunication, and major issues in married life. Professionally as well, it can ruin it all with you in ways you never expected. So, to counter those ill effects, here is Kanchan Latta Sharma, astrologer at All India Institute of Occult Science, who has explained the remedies and how Rahu really works.


Sharma shared that the day of worshiping Rahu is on Saturday. On this day, we worship Goddess Durga. God Vishnu, God Bharav. Rahu is not considered a God as it is a shadow planet with blue colour. Items related to Rahu are Urad, black sesame, and coconuts.

What are Rahu and Ketu?

Rahu and Ketu are the disciples of Saturn Rahu is exalted in the Taurus sign and debilitated in the Scorpio sign. Rahu is a diplomatic planet that involves hard work. A person having Rahu strong in his/her horoscope, then that person can choose engineering, politics, research work, stockbroker, aviation, speculation or something created by hand (artist, interior designer, fashion designer, makeup artist, mason, etc). Rahu has friendly relations with Gemini, Virgo, and Sagittarius signs.


In the same way, Cancer and Leo were considered the enemy of Rahu.


If we talk about the planets, then Rahu is friendly with Mercury, Venus and Saturn planets. planets like Sun, Moon and Mars are the enemies of Rahu. In a person’s life, Rahu matures at the age of 42.

Benefic effects of Rahu

1. If Rahu is placed in the 5th, 9th, 7th or 10th house of a native birth chart without any malefic effects, it gives powerful and good results.

2. Rahu in the 12th house gives foreign settlement to the person.

3. Rahu gives good results in 1st, 3rd, 6th and 11th houses in the lagna chart/ ascendent chart of a person.

4. Rahu stays in each sign for 18 years and usually takes 18 months to travel from one sign to another.

5. Rahu is always retrograde and has materialistic desires, fame, greed, and obsessive behaviour.


Malefic effects


1. Rahu, if not placed in a strong position in the horoscope, gives a malefic effect.

2. If placed In 2nd, 5th, 9th, 12th house of the native chart, then it is considered as Pitra dosh.

3. If placed in 4th house, considered as Matri dosh.

4. Also, if placed in the 4th house, it is considered as Vastu dosh

1. Chant Swaraswati Vandana

2. Chant Durga Chalisa

3. Chant Beej mantra of Rahu

4. Chant Gayatri mantra which removes negativity of Rahu and brings prosperity in life.

5. Avoid wearing blue coloured clothes.

6. Rotate 7 coconuts around your head in an anticlockwise direction and throw it into running water.

7. Take a bath with coffee powder.
