It is important to maintain contact and be in each other's daily lives as much as possible. Exchange videos and photos of the interesting moments of your day-to-day life. This will keep your presence active in your partner's life.
Set a time to talk
This is very important in the case of couples who live in different time zones. Fix a time which is comfortable for both. If you are going to be busy at the set time it is important to tell the partner before hand to avoid misunderstandings.
Trust, don't be complacent
When in a long distance relationship, being suspicious of your partner's whereabouts can tear you apart. You need to trust your partner, but at the same time shouldn't be complacent. The trick is to stay alert without getting paranoid. Physical distance widens the emotional gap.
Be like a normal couple
Regular couples do not spend the majority of their time talking, but rather doing things with each other. Try to replicate this. Interaction over the phone can become dull in the long run.
