Wedding rituals are all sorts of magical. The tradition of bouquet toss is said to have originated in England. This tradition required everyone to touch the bride or grab a piece of her clothing. This act was said to bring good luck to the wedding guests, especially in aspects of suitors and marriage. And so, to avoid this enormous hassle, the bride would leave the bouquet and run away from the wedding venue.

Even though the excessive grabbing and touching of the bride’s clothes have now almost become obsolete, the tradition still remains, in a very entertaining way. After the ‘I dos’ or when the reception party is coming to an end, all the single women in the wedding party gather and the bride tosses the bouquet over her shoulder. The woman who catches the bouquet is said to be ‘next in line for marriage’.

Instead of grabbing the bride’s clothing, all the single ladies in the reception party wait to catch the bouquet so that they can get married next. This belief of luck is said to get pretty competitive because the idea is that those with partners would want to tie the knot quickly. And it would make them happier to know that they’re next in line to walk down the aisle. However, if a woman catches the bouquet who is supposedly single can simply take the beautiful bouquet and keep it in her home for good luck.

The bouquet toss tradition is not compulsory anymore, as now brides feel that it should be their choice as to if they want to throw their wedding bouquet or not. However, many still want to adhere to this tradition since it’s fun and entertaining. After catching the bouquet, everyone assembles onto the dance floor and busts their move while having a cheerful time at the wedding.

According to wedding planners, brides should keep a headcount of how many single women will be attending the wedding. If there’s quite some many, tossing the bouquet shouldn’t be a problem. But if there are fewer single women, then they might feel embarrassed and singled out when they have to come forward for the toss. So, it’s always better to plan accordingly, for the sake of the wedding guests.

If the bride decides against tossing her bouquet to the single ladies, she can instead give the bouquet to her mother or grandmother, or even a woman who has been married the longest. This is a very beautiful and genuine gesture that has earned praises by many!
