‘I don’t want to reconcile!’: Brooklyn Beckham publicly accuses David and Victoria of 'trying to ruin his relationship' with Nicola Peltz
What had long circulated as rumor and tabloid speculation became explicit this week when Brooklyn Beckham took the family feud public. In a series of Instagram Stories, the 26-year-old directly addressed his estrangement from his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, laying out his version of events for the first time and making clear that reconciliation is not something he wants.
After years of silence, Brooklyn said he felt compelled to speak because private matters continued to surface in the press. “I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life,” he wrote. He added that he had tried to keep the situation out of public view, but claimed ongoing media narratives left him with no option but to respond to what he called “some of the lies that have been printed.”
At the center of Brooklyn’s account is his wife, actor and heiress Nicola Peltz-Beckham, whom he says has faced hostility from his family since before their April 2022 wedding. According to Brooklyn, tensions that had built quietly for years reached a breaking point during the planning of their Florida ceremony.
“My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn’t stopped,” he wrote.
One of the most painful incidents, he said, involved Victoria Beckham withdrawing from designing Nicola’s wedding dress shortly before the ceremony. “My mum cancelled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour despite how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently find a new dress,” Brooklyn said.
He also alleged that, in the lead-up to the wedding, his parents “repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe” him into signing away the rights to his own name. “They were adamant on me signing before my wedding date because then the terms of the deal would be initiated,” he wrote, adding, “My holdout affected the payday, and they have never treated me the same since.”
Brooklyn described a family dynamic shaped by image management rather than emotional connection. “For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family,” he said, calling “the performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships” a constant presence in his upbringing. In his words, “Brand Beckham comes first.”
Brooklyn said the wedding itself remains a source of lasting pain. He alleged that his mother interrupted his planned first dance with Nicola and replaced it with her own. “I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life,” he wrote. He said the experience was so upsetting that he and Nicola later chose to renew their vows privately, without his family present.
He also claimed that the night before the wedding, members of his family told him Nicola was “not blood” and “not family,” words he said still echo. “My wife has been consistently disrespected by my family, no matter how hard we’ve tried to come together as one,” he wrote.
Addressing his absence from David Beckham’s 50th birthday celebrations, Brooklyn said he and Nicola traveled to London hoping to spend time together quietly but were repeatedly turned away. “When he finally agreed to see me, it was under the condition that Nicola wasn’t invited,” Brooklyn wrote. “It was a slap in the face.”
He rejected claims that Nicola controls him. “The narrative that my wife controls me is completely backwards,” he said. “I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life.”
Brooklyn said stepping away from his family has brought relief. “I grew up with overwhelming anxiety,” he wrote. “For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared. I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose, and have found peace and relief.”
He closed his statement by drawing a firm line. “My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, press, or manipulation,” he wrote. “All we want peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family.”
Reports have previously indicated that Brooklyn asked his parents to communicate with him only through lawyers, underscoring the depth of the rift.
