These tips may prove to be useful

Jealousy is an emotion that can cause a stir in all our lives. The degree of jealousy also matters a lot. In romantic relationships it is a common phenomenon which should be addressed but among friends, it is a matter that should be dealt with immediately. Before you lash out and hurt yourself and your friend, you must do these 5 things.

2/6

Acceptance

First step to get over the feeling of jealousy is nothing but acceptance. There is no shame or guilt and do not mix anger into it. Don’t judge yourself. Because it is a normal feeling when you love your friend so much. As per several researchers, if you are willing to accept and face all the emotions, acknowledge the negative emotions, you will be able to work on them more quickly.

3/6

Don’t feed it

Instead of adding more oil to the fire, look at ways of extinguishing them. Don’t justify your negative emotions. Don’t make comparisons, stop looking at the shortcomings of your friend. Don’t assume that he/she likes another person over you. You may just have another place in their heart which is not even close to any sort of comparison. Practice mindfulness.

4/6

What are those insecurities?

Make yourself some green tea, sit and jot down what all is bothering you so much. Do you fear being abandoned, replaced, unworthy? It could also be the feel of not being valued by your friend or being prioritised by him or her. It is possible that these feelings stem from another issue altogether.

5/6

Steady your emotions

Do not act on your feelings and burst out at the wrong moment. Control your emotions, think rationally. Acting on the spur of the moment is the last thing you should be doing. You could be saying hurtful things, which could further damage your relationship.

6/6

Talk it out with your friend

The best solution would be to talk about the issues you are facing with your friend. Instead of pondering over it and losing sleep on such a matter, discuss it directly. Your friend will appreciate the fact that you value him/her enough that you want to get rid of any misunderstanding between the two of you! But when you talk, do not just say your words and spew out allegations, be a good listener too! You never know what the other was actually thinking in whatever situation! Remember when Joey jumped to save the sandwich and not Ross but Chandler presumed that Ross was his priority? The air was cleared when Chandler told Joey what was bothering him and it turned out to be something else.
