George Santos personal life: Who is the ex-congressman married to? Inside his controversial love life and relationship history
President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he was commuting the sentence of former Republican representative . Trump said on a Truth Social post, “George Santos was somewhat of a “rogue,” but there are many rogues throughout our Country that aren’t forced to serve seven years in prison.” The US President even drew comparisons to Senator Richard Blumenthal, whom Trump called “Da Nang Dick” and claimed that the Democrat lied about serving in the Vietnam War.
George Santos, the former Republican Congressman, who won office by fabricating key details of his biography and later went to prison for fraud, received clemency from US President Donald Trump on Friday.
His track record as an ex-congressman might seem like George Santos’ political career has been controversial – but that’s not all. His personal life has also been quite the talk of the town. Here's everything you need to know about George Santos' controversial love life.
George Santos: Inside his personal life
Santos, who briefly represented New York’s 3rd congressional district, has acknowledged that he is openly gay – although he reportedly was married to a woman before. At present, Santos is reportedly married to Matheus Gerard (sometimes described as “Matt” Gerard), a Brazilian pharmacist. The two reportedly married in 2021, and Santos publicly acknowledged the relationship around 2023.However, before his marriage to Gerard, Santos had a documented marriage to a woman, Uadla Vieira, from 2012 to 2019. During that time, there are also reports about him dating men – some of whom allege he made promises of marriage or even help with US citizenship in exchange. As per a 2023 Business Insider report, a former boyfriend of Santos said that he lived with Santos and his then-wife, being unaware of the marriage. Another ex-boyfriend said Santos proposed multiple times while still married, and allegedly promised a US green card.
These accounts add to the broader narrative of a quite layered and ‘controversial’ personal life of Santos – in near-perfect accordance with his professional one.
Santos, who is a former Republican Congressman, was expelled from Congress following a brief and scandal-filled tenure. He pleaded guilty to exaggerating fundraising numbers and falsifying donor names to secure the Republican Party's financial backing during the 2022 election cycle. However, he was elected that year to represent part of New York City and its eastern suburbs. During his campaign, Santos falsely claimed he had attended New York University, worked at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, and that his grandparents had escaped the Nazis during World War II.
His tenure was short-lived, as he was expelled from Congress after revelations that he had fabricated large portions of his resume, education, employment history, and background.
