Geeta Basra reveals the one condition she put before marrying Harbhajan Singh: "If you do...’”
For years, there's a certain charm about Indian cricketers marrying Bollywood actresses. And one such star-couple is former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh and his actress wife Geeta Basra. After dating each other for some time, the couple finally tied the knot in 2015 and are now parents to two cute children. However, their love story wasn't always so perfect. While it was love at first sight for Harbhajan, Geeta was a bit hesitant before finally saying a 'yes'. Infact, she had also put a condition for Harbhajan before marrying him!
In a recent podcast with Bharti Singh, Geeta Basra revealed the one condition on which she agreed to marry cricketer Harbhajan Singh in 2015. Talking about how Harbhajan Singh had fallen in love with her, Geeta shared that he had seen one of her posts and it was probably love at first sight for the cricketer. "Harbhajan had asked for my number from his fellow-cricketer Yuvraj Singh, as he had a lot of friends. After this, Harbhajan messaged me. But I didn't respond to his message as I had no idea or interest in cricket or cricketers. They had just won the world cup back then..."
Adding to it, Geeta further said, "I replied to him a few days later, congratulating him. Sometime later we spoke again. And when we met, Harbhajan was very clear that he didn't want to be just friends with me. He said, "I'll marry you." And I was like, "Shaadi?" I was only 21 back then and I was trying to make a career in Bollywood."
Geeta further shared that she was afraid her career would be affected if she was linked to a cricketer as she had already missed out on four films because of her wedding rumours.
But, life had other plans for Geeta.
Finally, 10 months after of this particular incident, Geeta ended up saying "yes" to Harbhajan. However, Geeta did put one condition before marrying Harbhajan. Geeta further shared that she had told Harbhahjan that the day he gets 300 wickets, she would marry him. And in a few days, the cricketer took his 300th wicket and that's when Geeta said "yes". Harbhajan and Geeta soon started their wedding preparations after this.
Talking about what she admires the most about Harbhajan, Geeta shared that he is a star but he didn't have that attitude (even back when they initially met). Instead, "He was a true Punjabi at heart, just like me" she shared and this helped the star couple bond.
Geeta also shared that before marrying the cricketer, she feared the cultural difference between her and her now-husband and if he would loyal, considering there are several news about such affairs. But Harbhajan proved her wrong, and in 2015 the couple finally got hitched in a lavish wedding.
