Did Meghan Markle modify her engagement ring for the FOURTH time?
Meghan Markle has once again caught the attention with her engagement ring, sparking speculation that she has altered it for the fourth time. The trailer for her soon-to-be-released Netflix show, 'With Love, Meghan', shows what appears to netizens as seemingly a great alteration in the design of her beloved sparkler.
The original design
When Prince Harry proposed to Meghan in November 2017, he presented her with a unique engagement ring that held deep personal significance. The ring features a three-carat cushion-cut diamond sourced from Botswana, a location that holds fond memories for the couple, as it was where Harry first expressed his intention to propose during a holiday for Meghan's 36th birthday. Flanking this central stone are two smaller diamonds from the collection of Harry's late mother, Princess Diana. Harry explained in a 2017 BBC interview, “The little diamonds on either side are from my mother’s jewelry collection to make sure she’s with us on this crazy journey together.” Meghan echoed this sentiment, stating, “To be able to have this, which sort of links where you come from and Botswana, which is important to us, it’s perfect.”
First alteration
Less than two years after their engagement, Meghan decided to make some changes to her ring. In 2019, she debuted a new design at the Trooping the Colour event. The original plain gold band was replaced with a thinner band adorned with micro-pavé diamonds. According to royal experts Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie in their book ‘Finding Freedom,’ this redesign was initiated by Harry himself. Lorraine Schwartz, the jeweller who made the modifications, described Harry as “the loveliest person ever. So romantic, so thoughtful.” Alongside these changes, Harry also commissioned an eternity band featuring their birthstones and that of their son Archie.
Further modifications
In 2022 that it was reported another change was observed when Meghan wore the ring at the Invictus Games at The Hague. Onlookers commented that there were now additional diamonds around the center stone of her engagement ring. However, just a year later, she was seen without the updated ring as it was reportedly being serviced due to a loose setting.
Latest speculations
Fast forward to now, fans are speculating that there is another change when seeing Meghan's ring in promotional material for her new Netflix series, fans believe that the central stone has transformed from its original cushion shape to an emerald cut. Comments on social media reflected this observation: “Is that the fourth evolution of the ring?” questioned one user on X (formerly Twitter).
While some speculate that Meghan may have replaced her sentimental Botswana diamond entirely, it is also possible that the setting has been altered to give it a different appearance. Despite several modifications, Meghan has not removed her late mother-in-law Princess Diana’s diamonds that sit on either side of her engagement ring.
Meghan Markle is all set to make a comeback with the series, ‘With Love, Meghan’, which will premiere on 4th March 2025.
