Couple bunked college for a date, Panchayat forced them into marriage by evening: How a college romance took an unexpected turn
In what sounds like a romantic love story, a college-going couple from Saharanpur recently found themselves getting engaged in a bizarre turn of events. The college couple, whose identities have not been revealed, is said to have bunked classes to go on a date and spend some time together. However, fate had other plans, and they ended up getting engaged on the very same day. Here’s what happened:
College romance gone wrong? A couple bunked classes for love, ended up engagedThe young couple, who belonged to the same village near the Deoband police station, first met in college and soon fell in love. On December 16, 2025, like most college lovers, the couple decided to skip classes and go out together. They both left for college early in the morning, but when the young woman did not return home till late evening, her family grew concerned and started searching for her, reported Bhaskar English. Her family questioned relatives and friends in an attempt to locate her, but to no avail.
The same evening, the young man drove the woman on his bike to drop her home. That’s when the college lovers were caught together by villagers. Upon questioning, it was found that the young man and woman were in a relationship. Soon after, a panchayat was called in the village, and both families were summoned.
During the panchayat discussion, it was revealed that the college couple belonged to the same caste. Approving their relationship, the panchayat announced that it should be formalised into marriage, a decision both families agreed to. “We did not know about this love affair earlier, but after discussion in the panchayat, we agreed to this relationship. Now, when both parties consent and society is ready, marriage is the best option,” said the man’s family, as quoted by Bhaskar English.
Gifts and shagun were exchanged between the two families on the same day, formally recognising the couple’s relationship. It was also shared that the young lovers would get married within a few days, after a suitable date is decided by their families. “Society and family honour come first. Wedding preparations will begin soon,” the woman’s family said, according to the report.
This bizarre yet real love story has since caught public attention, with many surprised by the unusual outcome the college lovers faced for bunking classes.
