Are you getting married in your 30s? Here’s how it’s a different experience than tying the knot in the 20s

Tying the knot in the 30s

There has been a never-ending debate about the right age to get married. While some feel 20s is the ideal time to tie the knot, for many 30s is the phase of life when you are more stable and mature to take the plunge. In reality, there are pros and cons to getting hitched at any age. Here’s what it feels like to marry in your 30s and how it can be different from your 20s.

2/7

You are clear about what you want

By the time you reach your 30s, you have probably dated, observed your friends’ relationships and most importantly, understood your own needs better. Therefore, you have better clarity about what all you seek from a partner and a relationship. You are more confident about your choice and you make pragmatic decisions.

3/7

Maturity and communication skills

As you age and deal with life (sigh!), you become more logical and far-sighted. Whenever your relationship hits a rough patch, rather than overreacting or sweeping the issue under the carpet, you address it maturely. You have a better idea on how to communicate on the subject and take care of the situation.

4/7

Having kids

Marrying in your 30s might not be the best thing for your biological clock. Until and unless you have made up your mind that you don’t want to become a parent, there is nothing to worry about. But if you want to have kids, it might be not a cakewalk. It might not be easier to conceive in your 30s, there could be a higher probability of having a Cesarean section (according to a study published in Human Reproduction) and you might have to opt for other ways to conceive.

5/7

Managing personal and professional life

You 20s might be about figuring out what you exactly want to do professionally and are just figuring out where your career is headed towards. In your 30s, you might be in a more stable space and clear about your career path. Hence, you might be able to give more attention to your relationship and invest your time, energy and emotions to strengthen it.

6/7

You know love is not always rosy

You have had your own share of dating people and might have been through one or multiple heartbreaks. You know a relationship is not always rosy and understand your happiness lies in your own hands. Hence, when you finally plan to settle down, you know what it takes to make a relationship work and you are marrying for all the right reasons.

7/7

You are a stronger person in your 30s

Thanks to the societal and family pressure one might face to get married in their 20s, one becomes a stronger (and thick-skinned) by their 30s. You can handle pressure without stressing about it round the clock and when it comes to making decisions, you know when to put your foot down.
