A look back at Justin and Hailey Bieber's love story amid divorce rumours

Amidst divorce rumours, singer Justin Bieber was papped in New York City. He looked unrecognizable, leaving his devoted fans concerned. He was spotted wearing an oversized yellow coat, and a grey hat, and looked quite weak. "I wonder what really happened to him," a fan wrote on X. His recent appearance comes amidst reports of his strained marriage with wife Hailey Bieber.
From knowing each other since the late 2000s to becoming friends, dating on and off, to later splitting, and reconnecting, then marrying and having a child together, Justin Bieber and Hailey Rhode Baldwin have had one hell of a journey together.

When Justin Bieber met Hailey
It was Hailey’s father Stephen Baldwin, who introduced her to her future husband Justin. This happened in Nov. 2009, backstage at the Today show. Hailey, who was 12, shook hands with the pop star.
Brief meeting
In Feb. 2011, Hailey met Justin at the premiere of his Never Say Never documentary in New York City. They posed together, and she also found him ‘cute’. Talking to Vogue earlier, she said, “I was never a superfan, of him or of anyone. It was never that crazed, screaming thing. I didn't think about it in any kind of way except for the fact that he was cute. Everybody had a crush on him. But for the first few years we had a weird age gap.”
Hailey supports Justin and Selena Gomez’s romance
In 2011, Hailey conveyed her support for the budding romance between Justin and Selena Gomez. "I don't care what anyone says but Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez together is the definition of a teenage dream! #word," Hailey said in a tweet, but later deleted it.

In Nov. 2014, Justin and Hailey Bieber were seen at Hillsong Church together. Talking to Vogue, Hailey said, “One day Justin walked into Hillsong and was like, 'Hey, you got older.' I was like, 'Yeah, what's up?' Over time he became my best guy friend. I was running around with him as his homie, but we weren't hanging out [romantically]."

In Dec. 2015, Hailey, after dismissing rumours of dating Justin Bieber, however, was spotted enjoying a vacation with him and his family in Mexico.
Justin drops hints about his relationship with Hailey
In Feb 2016, Justin Bieber addressed his relationship with Hailey and described her as "someone I really love. We spend a lot of time together." He added that there was already "a lot that [he had] to commit to" so a girlfriend’s addition would only make things worse. "I know that in the past I've hurt people and said things that I didn't mean to make them happy in the moment. So now I'm just more so looking at the future, making sure I'm not damaging them," he said. Hailey told E!News that they were "not an exclusive couple. Relationships at this age are already complicated, but I don't really like to talk about it because it's between me and him."
Breakup
Justin and Hailey split up shortly after. "Negative things happened that we still need to talk about and work through," Hailey told Vogue later. According to her it was very dramatic, and there was a period where if she walked into a room, he would walk out.
Reconnecting
In June 2018, the duo got back together. The rekindled their romance and were unable to take hands off each other. Their PDA moments made headlines.
Justin pops the question
In July, 2018, Justin popped the question to Hailey, during a romantic dinner at a local restaurant while they were on vacation in the Bahamas.
Engagement announcement
Justin Bieber shortly confirmed his engagement with Hailey on social media. "Hailey I am soooo in love with everything about you! So committed to spending my life getting to know every single part of you loving you patiently and kindly," he wrote on Instagram. He added, "I promise to lead our family with honor and integrity letting Jesus through his Holy Spirit guide us in everything we do and every decision we make. My heart is COMPLETELY and FULLY YOURS and I will ALWAYS put you first! You are the love of my life Hailey Baldwin and I wouldn't want to spend it with anybody else."
Moving in together
In Sep. 2018, the couple moved in together to his home outside of Toronto.
Marriage
The couple got hitched in a civil ceremony in New York City on Sep 13, 2018. They later held a bigger celebration with friends and family in South Carolina in 2019.
Hailey changes her name
After two months of marrying Justin Bieber, Hailey changed her name on social media to Hailey Rhode Baldwin Bieber. In a docu-series, released in 2020, Justin shared that getting "to share my life with [Hailey] just makes it so much more rewarding."
Hailey adds, "He was the first person I ever had real feelings for. When things kind of went south for a little bit and we went our separate ways, I just knew that no matter what the outcome was going to be, he was going to be somebody that I loved for the rest of my life. No matter what, he was always going to hold a special place in my heart."
Justin Bieber opens up about the ‘emotional breakdown’ he had early on in his marriage
In May 2022, Justin opened up about the ‘emotional breakdown’ he had. "It's a journey. I remember when I first got married, I hit a little bit of an emotional breakdown because I thought marriage was going to fix all my problems and it didn't. It just kind of was a reflection of like, man, you're a bit of a hypocrite man,” he said.
He added, "You want your wife to do something that you're not doing and it's like, it's hard sometimes to look in the mirror and really have to realize, man, maybe you're not the person that you necessarily thought that you were. And that's just a result of trauma and life circumstances."
Justin Bieber diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome
In June 2022, Justin opened up about being diagnosed with Ramsay hunt syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that caused paralysis on the right side of his face.
“ I have this syndrome called Ramsay Hunt syndrome, and it is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis. As you can see this eye is not blinking. I can’t smile on this side of my face, this nostril will not move, so there’s full paralysis on this side of my face,” Justin Bieber said on Instagram.
Justin and Hailey’s fourth wedding anniversary
In Sep. 2022, the couple celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary. . "Happy anniversary to my best friend and wifey @haileybieber... thanks for making me better in every way," the singer wrote on Instagram. Hailey penned, "4 years married to you. The most beautiful human I've ever known... love of my life. Thank God for you.”
Fifth wedding anniversary
The couple celebrated their fifth anniversary in 2023. In a note shared on Instagram, Justin wrote, "To the most precious, my beloved. 5 years. You have captivated my hear. I know from the depths of my soul down to my bones that this journey with you will only exceed our wildest expectations. So let’s keep dreaming big baby. Cheers to forever and ever. I love you with every fiber of my being."


First child
In May 2024, they announced that they are expecting a baby. In August the couple welcomed their first child, a son, Jack Blues Bieber.
