Do not criticise his kid

No matter how many issues you and your spouse have, never crticise his son or daughter in front of him. In fact, appreciate your spouse in front of the parents and let them know that their child is in good hands now.

How to bond with your father-in-law

Just like your mother-in-law, your father-in-law is equally important. You must take care of him too because after all he is the father of your spouse and they are a bundle of cuteness when they are happy. Here are 5 ways in which you can bond with him irrespective of whether you are a daughter-in-law or the son-in-law.

3/6

Be a bit careful but talk openly

Whenever you talk to your father-in-law, be open but keep a filter steady. If you think your religious and political views differ a lot, try not to enter that territory. The older generation is very sensitive about these things and you never know what can trigger an argument. Talk about old memories, your first job, your work issues etc. Keep it light.

4/6

Take his opinion

You should not just involve your mother-in-law, your father-in-law is also important. Ask him for his opinion on different matters as well. Make him feel important too and do not shove him off.

5/6

Spend time with him

Make it a point to spend some quality time with him. Watch a match together, if he likes certain sports try your hand at it too. Go with him, ask your spouse about his likes and dislikes. Dip your feet in his hobbies as well. If he loves gardening, ask him if you can help and try to make him teach you something too. Even if you already know it, it is okay to act dumb sometimes.

6/6

Make him feel special

Take him out for a billiards game if he likes that. Throw surprises for him. They do not have to be grand, just be thoughtful. You can also take him out for a film that you know he will like or he is interested in.

The most important thing is to consider men and women equal. This applies to in laws from either side. Instead of considering superior to one another, both sides need to work out how they can be beneficial to each other.
