5 signs you are gaslighting yourself

It is commonly known that individuals can gaslight others, but it's also important to recognise that some individuals engage in self-gaslighting. Gaslighting oneself is a form of emotional abuse or manipulation in which a person manipulates their own thoughts, emotions, or perceptions to doubt their own reality. It's important to recognize these signs and take necessary actions if you suspect you are gaslighting yourself. We all have heard that people gaslight other people but some people gaslight themselves. Here we list down 5 signs you are gaslighting yourself-

2/6

Self-doubting yourself constantly

If you find yourself frequently questioning your own judgment, decisions, and feelings, often dismissing them as invalid or exaggerated without a valid reason, you surely are gaslighting yourself. Other signs include, second-guessing your memory, or feeling confused about what actually happened.

3/6

Invalidating your feelings and emotions

Such people downplay or invalidate their own feelings, believing that they are irrational, and convince themselves that they are overreacting. Experiencing a sense of confusion that affects their perceptions and decisions and feeling unsure about what is real or true, are other signs of gaslighting. These people often tell themselves that they are too stupid, or too sensitive.

4/6

Always thinking you are wrong

People who gaslight themselves always think that they are the wrong ones. They tend to apologize excessively, even for things that are not their fault, out of fear that they might have done something wrong or caused a negative outcome. Such people find ways to blame themselves for situations, taking responsibility for the actions or emotions of others. It is a sign.

5/6

Always doubting your capabilities

If you often find yourself doubting your potential and capabilities and always think you're not enough, you are in the cycle of gaslighting yourself. You may also find yourself relying heavily on others' opinions and validation to define your self-worth, disregarding your own instincts or intuition. You convince yourself that your needs are unimportant and you are unworthy.

6/6

You are stuck in the past

One of the common signs as well as reason for self-gaslighting is the inability to move forward from your past. These people often find themselves stuck in the cycle of “should have” done this or that! They keep wondering the possibilities of I “would have” responded differently or done something differently, then the situations would've been much better.
