Falling in love can make one experience similar euphoria that a person feels after having cocaine. Yes, you read it right. According to a study called "The Neuroimaging of Love", the brain of people in ‘love’ releases increased levels of adrenaline, oxytocin, and dopamine. These induce similar ecstasy like symptoms that are not very different from that of cocaine consumption.

While Japanese celebrates Valentine’s Day, they also celebrate another day dedicated to love and romance called White Day. On Valentine’s Day, women treat their lovers with chocolates and express their love. A month later, men reciprocate their gesture on White Day by pampering women with gifts.

A psychologist named Robert Sternberg developed triangular theory of love in 1985 and suggested that ‘romantic love’ was a combination of intimacy, passion and commitment. If any of these constituents is missing, a person gets stuck in other forms love such as friendship, platonic love, compassionate love, infatuation etc. Unfortunately, this theory was not a big success and needed more accurate measures.

We are not sure about love at first sight, but studies show that one might get attracted towards someone at first sight. Our brain calculates information in a short span of time and the prefrontal cortex region of the brain decides whether you are attracted to someone or not. Interestingly, a research was conducted where people were shown the photographs of people they were attracted to and this region of the brain buzzed with activity. Later, researchers tested this information in a speed dating experiment. People who were attracted towards others (as the activity in their prefrontal cortex reported) exchanged their numbers at the end of the session.

We all know being in love gives us butterflies and distracts us from concentrating anywhere. Now, there is scientific reason behind this as well.
