​Why should schools necessarily include sports in their curriculum


"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" a proverb by James Howell rightly communicates that without taking your time off for some sports activity can make a person unfit, stressed and boring. Apart from just being an entertainment or leisure activity, sports have much to do with a person’s well-being. In order to be mentally and physically fit, one needs to include sports as a habit.

Here are some chief reasons why schools should allow a systematic inclusion of sports in their curriculum.

Leadership skills

Sports enables students to emerge as strong leaders to lead their teams. While in that process they develop a strong decision making skill which ultimately decides the winning or losing of the game. While being a leader, the student thoroughly engages himself to advise and build team coordination in order to obtain the desired output. Evaluating and analysing their strengths and weaknesses, it allows them to improve themselves each time.

Physical growth

Physical activities and exercises promote muscle and bone growth which is very pivotal in developing a good physique. Not only that but after a good play, one definitely wants to have a satisfying and wholesome diet which helps to retain the energy back. Such healthy habits can promote cell, hormonal, glandular immune and organ activity. If a student is physically fit then he/she can better concentrate on their studies.

Balanced sleep

After a nice game, the body gradually triggers hormones that induce sleep. Such hormones soothe and calm the body to enjoy a good night's sleep. If a student receives such undisturbed sleep then he/she can delightfully concentrate in the class without feeling drowsy.

Confidence and self-esteem

While in a game, children learn about their strength and abilities which makes them unique from their fellow individual. Such self-analytical ideas can help them to boost their self-esteem. However, when they get rewarded or appreciated in a tournament, it remarkably builds their confidence and the ability to face new challenges or assignments.

Teamwork

Sports allow children to coordinate and well understand their fellow mates. A team may consist of people from different gender, caste, race, ethnicity or beliefs yet what brings them closer is the sport they play together. They learn certain creative and smart skills from one another. Many times such a sports circle allows a child to share personal problems or any sort of anxiety with each other and hence ultimately becoming a support system for each other.
