Managing summer allergies in kids

Summer brings outdoor fun for children, but it can also trigger allergies such as dust, pollen, heat rashes, and insect bites. There are many children who tend to suffer from allergies that can give them, as well as their parents, a tough time. This article helps to know about common summer allergies and vital tips to manage them. Remember, timely management can help the children to stay comfortable and healthy.

Common Summer allergies in kids and how to manage them

Summer is a time when children enjoy outdoor activities, vacations, and playing in parks. Children often go on a vacation, play in gardens or parks, opt for camps or outdoor activities. Unfortunately, the hot and humid weather can also increase the risk of certain allergies in kids. Did you know? Exposure to dust, pollen, sweat, insects, and pollution can trigger allergic reactions that may cause discomfort and irritation. Many parents assume that allergies happen only during winter or seasonal changes, but summer allergies are also common and should not be ignored at all.

3/7

Pollen allergy

During summer, plants and trees release pollen into the air which may lead to symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and throat irritation. To prevent it, keep windows closed during high pollen times, encourage children to wash their hands and face after outdoor play, and change clothes after coming home.

4/7

Dust allergy

So, that unwanted dust at home, in the surroundings, or even pollution can trigger coughing, sneezing, nasal congestion, and breathing discomfort in children. Keep the home clean and dust-free, wash bedsheets often, clean the surfaces such as kitchen countertops, furniture, and faucets, and avoid letting children play in very dusty areas. Children should wash their hands after touching any objects.

5/7

Heat rash (prickly heat)

Children may sweat constantly during summer, which can cause small red itchy rashes on the neck, back, and even chest. The rashes can be painful, cause burning and pricking sensations. As a result, the child will be unable to focus on studies due to discomfort. To tackle heat rash, dress children in loose cotton clothes, keep the skin dry, and ensure they stay in cool and well-ventilated environments. Use products recommended by the expert only to manage the rash.

6/7

Insect bite allergy:

Mosquitoes, ants, and other insects tend to get more active during summer. Many children can experience symptoms such as swelling, itching, redness, or skin irritation after insect bites. The parents should use mosquito nets or repellents, keep the surroundings clean, and apply soothing creams as prescribed by the doctor if mild irritation occurs.

7/7

Food allergies

Not storing food can spoil it quickly during the hot summer weather. Many children suffer from stomach pain or allergic reactions such as vomiting, nausea, and rash. Parents should ensure that the child eats fresh, properly stored food and drinks clean water. Avoid giving street food to the child that may not be hygienically prepared.
Maintaining good hygiene, keeping children hydrated, and avoiding allergy triggers can help children to stay healthy and prevent allergies.
