In an interview, where she broke the news, Kalki said:
“I went and immediately bought another pregnancy test, just to make sure. But it was a very happy reaction. I think the last few years have been a situation where, I know I have wanted children, but I was also not been in a… either the times weren’t right or I wasn’t with the right person. Or whatever, there was something! So all those things seemed to have come in place this time. Even though it wasn’t planned as we were thinking maybe in a year or two. But I think that’s the best thing about it. Now we are just diving right into it without too much pre-planning.”
Kalki also mentioned that she always wanted to experience parenthood as she is a firm believer of children teaching you things:
"Children take us back to the basics; remind us of what is important. Also, just wanting to experience pregnancy, of feeling this life growing inside you.”
In another interview, Kalki also said that along with the many changes pregnancy has brought along, it has also made a conscious change in herself:
"I already feel the changes in the way I react to things. I am more deliberate, slower, more patient. When motherhood comes eventually, it brings with it a new consciousness to your sense of the person. I still want to work but it is less about the rat race and more about nurturing oneself through one’s work. It becomes about infusing concentration and energy inward."

The baby is due to be born on January 2020. Kalki, who has made her mind to have a water birth will be shifting to Goa in a couple of months. As for now, the actress is relaxing and enjoying her time by doing yoga, going for walks and listening to calming tunes.

Kalki also spoke up about the initial struggles the first trimester throws up, which in a way tested her and surprised her:
“When I see the sonography, I see this creature which let me tell you in the first three months, it was an alien invasion. It was like a virus because I was throwing up, I was so ill and I was like how does nature ensure the survival of the species when it makes it so unpleasant for us. But I have passed that stage and thankfully now I am glowing, peaceful and very excited. And of course, when you see the baby in sonography, you hear the heartbeat, it sounds cliche but it’s a miracle. Coming from absolutely nothing into forming a complete person. So I am just looking forward to meeting this person.”
After months of hiding and juggling between shoots, Kalki also shared an adorable picture on Instagram showing off her bump! Take a look!'
Kalki captioned it, "Relieved I can let that bump hang free after months of stuffing it into costumes which fit me at the beginning of shoot schedules in July but were not so easy to zip up by mid-September!"
The parents-to-be have already chosen a name for the baby, which is gender-neutral. She added, "I've chosen a name that works for either gender and that is representative of a gay person because I want my child to have that freedom of movement under the many umbrellas of gender that we have."
