Pregnancy boobs: 5 ways your breasts change when you are pregnant

Your relationship with your twins keeps changing throughout your life. They may grow bigger, perkier or baggier depending on what stage of life you are in. However, if there is one event that majorly impacts how your boobs look, it is your pregnancy.

While a lucky few may not experience any drastic change in the way their breasts look and feel, be rest assured that your boobs are in for a crazy ride during this nine-month journey. Watch out for these 5 new developments in your breasts:

2/6

They may get really BIG

Yes, you read that right. Your body starts preparing for the arrival of the newborn and the blood flow to your breasts increases. Additionally, you also start gaining weight to support the growing belly, which can again lead to fuller breasts. Some women may notice their breast size increase around one cup size, while others may not notice any change at all.

3/6

Your nipples change colour

During your pregnancy, your nipples will start getting darker and become more defined. This new development takes place because of an increase in the production of estrogen and progesterone. Even the areola begins to darken in colour and increase in size. The areola is the coloured area around your nipple.

4/6

Your boobs may start leaking

If you thought that only breastfeeding women leaked milk, you are in for a shock. If you are nearing your delivery date, you may observe clear or slightly yellowish discharge from your tatas. Since your mammary glands are gearing up to produce food for your little one, they start producing colostrum--a thick, sticky liquid. It is also known as the ‘liquid gold’ because it is yellowish in colour and is packed with nutrients.

5/6

They become really tender

This is one symptom that most pregnant women experience. Tender and painful boobs are one of the first signs that signal you are heading towards motherhood. So, if you are battling sore, swollen and aching breasts, you can blame it to your raging hormones.

6/6

Say hello to stretch marks

This one is a no-brainer. Due to an increase in estrogen levels, your breasts usually grow a cup size during pregnancy. Your skin expands to accommodate this rapid growth, which usually leads to stretch marks. It is important to understand that stretch marks are completely normal and it is common for women to develop them during pregnancy.
