Parenting tips to take from Indra Nooyi
Parenting a child is never a cake walk but working mothers feel the brunt of it the most. This is because they have to juggle through a career, child’s needs and mom guilt to top it all up. To ease it all, here are some parenting tips from Indra Nooyi, former CEO of PepsiCo who has impeccable balanced her motherhood journey while taking her company to the new heights:
Nooyi says that motherhood, being an executive, and being a wife are all full-time jobs, and it's important to find time for yourself. This translates to getting some time for yourself and the things you like to do with all the madness around you. Motherhood does not mean keeping you in the hindsight but it is all about picking yourself first at every chance you get.
Nooyi says that you can make time for yourself by doing things with your kids, like going to the spa together. Indra Nooyi serves as motivation to redefine me time which means it is a time only for you and not including activities that you’d normally do with your family around. Try including other family members in your likes as much as you do in theirs.
Women must remember that not every battle is theirs to pick. Nooyi says that when her kids were small, she would sometimes tell them to call their dad if they missed her at home. This means you should let your spouse help you out with certain needs of the children because it is exhausting for a mother to do everything by herself and meet all the needs of a child.
Mom guilt is a real thing and most mothers like to make up for it by extending their maternity leaves. Nooyi says that even if parental leave is extended, it's still difficult for a mother to leave her child at home and focus on work. Therefore, it is essential to look for inclusive factors at work like a play school near the office or flexible work hours.
Mothers are not the only ones responsible for raising the child. It is as much the responsibility of the father to help the child with their needs. Nooyi says that it's important to have an understanding with your spouse and to approach things with equality. If you drop the child to school, make sure your husband picks them up as your dependable partner.
