Mel Gibson and his partner,
Rosalind Ross, have called off their nine-year romantic relationship. They confirmed the news through an exclusive joint statement to People. “While it is sad that we are ending this chapter in our lives, we are gifted with a wonderful son and will continue to be the best parents that we can be,” Gibson and Ross said.
Co-parenting their child The actor, 69, and moviemaker, 35, separated quietly about a year ago. They have, however, decided to co-parent their 8-year-old son, Lars, despite their separation.
Gibson and Ross got to know each other through mutual friends in 2014 and soon began dating. The couple welcomed their son in 2017, just days before Gibson received an Academy Award nomination for Best Director for his film Hacksaw Ridge.
Gibson expressed his joy at the time, saying, “What could be more exciting than listening to the nominations being announced while holding my newborn son.”
Aside from Lars, Gibson has eight older children. He has a daughter named Hannah and six adult sons Christian, Edward, William, Louis, Milo, and Thomas with his ex-wife, Robyn Moore. He also has a 16-year-old daughter, Lucia, with songwriter and pianist Oksana Grigorieva. Gibson and Grigorieva separated in 2010.
In September 2024, Gibson’s two youngest children, Lucia and Lars, joined him on the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of his film Monster Summer.
The family faced another challenge in January 2025 when Gibson and Ross lost their Malibu home in the Los Angeles wildfires. Gibson was out of town for work at the time, but his family and pets were safely evacuated.
Speaking about the incident during an appearance on NewsNation’s Elizabeth Vargas Reports on January 9, Gibson said, “The good news is that those in my family and those I love are all well, and we’re all happy and healthy and out of harm’s way. That’s all I can care about, really.”
