It is the largest component of the Indian Armed Forces

Indian Army is the land component of the Indian Armed Forces-- the other two being Indian Air Force and Indian Navy-- and is the largest wing of the country's armed forces.

The President of India is the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces

The President of India is the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces- which comprises the uniformed services The Indian Army, The Indian Navy and The Indian Air Force.

As per official statement, the Indian Armed Forces are controlled by the elected political leadership of the Nation - The Government of India. Executive control is exercised sequentially through the Union Cabinet, the Defence Minister, the Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC) and the Chiefs of Army, Naval and Air Staff of their respective Services. The Ministry of Defence handles matters related to personnel, financial and resource management.

"In Stride with the Future"

The Indian Army's theme of the year is "In Stride with the Future".

"We, the defenders of the Nation, are steadfast towards empowering our force through re-structuring and induction of modern weapon systems for future conflicts. Emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Warfare, Robotics and Aerospace, which have the potential for Military application and a disruptive impact on modern-day warfare are being explored and inducted. To confront multifarious security challenges, the Indian Army is “In Stride with the Future '', fully committed towards modernisation with impetus to indigenous solutions," the Indian Army says.

The Indian Army has 53 cantonments

Cantonments are areas which comprise both military and civil population and these differ from Military Stations which are purely meant for the use and accommodation of the armed forces and these are established under an executive order. The Indian Army has 53 cantonment boards, including Agra Cantonment, Ahmednagar Cantonment, Varanasi Cantonment, etc.

Siachen Glacier, world's biggest and deadliest battlefield, is under the Indian Army

The Siachen Glacier is of extreme importance to national security. It is also considered the deadliest battlefield in the world due to the climatic condition of the region. In Siachen glacier the temperature drops to below -60 degrees in winters. Apart from this there are constant threats of avalanches, crevasses on the glacier, high-speed winds.

The upcoming Thal Sena Bhawan

The headquarters of the Indian Army is situated in the country's capital at Delhi and is under the command of the Chief of the Army Staff.

In 2020, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had announced that all the pockets of the Army headquarters will come under Thal Sena Bhawan of the Army in Delhi cantonment.

Recently the government had invited tenders for building the Thal Sena Bhawan at a cost of 757 crore. The project is expected to be over within 27 months.

The Chief of Army Staff is the highest ranking officer of the Indian Army and is in charge of all operational, training, and logistical commands and is also the key adviser to the Minister of Defence.

Rajnath Singh is the Minister of Defence

Minister of Defence or the Raksha Mantri is one of the high ranking ministers of the government. He also serves as President of the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses, and as Chancellor of the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology and of the National Defence University.

Rajnath Singh is the current Defence Minister of the country.

The principal task of the Defence Ministry is to obtain policy directions of the Government on all defense and security related matters and communicate them for implementation to the Services Headquarters, Inter-Services Organisations, Production Establishments and Research and Development Organisations.

Indian Army's 61st Cavalry is the only horsed cavalry unit

The 61st cavalry is the only horsed cavalry unit in the world and holds a distinct recognition worldwide for the Equestrian sport.

"The Regiment stands tall in equestrian sport and has produced some of the best in this sport, with one Padma Shree, ten Arjuna awards, coupled with many other victories in Olympic/Asian/World Cup Polo Championships," an official statement says.
