Plants that thrive during Indian monsoon without rotting

The Indian monsoon helps reduce extreme summer heat but brings other problems for various household gardens. Too much rain, high humidity, waterlogging, and poor drainage cause plants to suffer from root rot and various fungal infections during such periods. There are plants that do not face any trouble growing in moisture-rich environments during the Indian monsoon months. Some garden experts claim that selecting proper Indian monsoon-friendly plants would help terraces and balconies stay greener and healthier during the rainy season. From flowering to foliage varieties, there are some plants that grow quite well under such weather conditions. Here are six examples of plants that withstand the Indian monsoon months without suffering much harm.

2/8

The areca palm loves a humid environment

Areca palms are among the plants that grow successfully under moist and humid weather conditions. In contrast to plants that find it difficult to live in monsoon conditions, areca palms grow fine provided they have appropriate drainage. The monsoon period is known to make leaves greener because the level of moisture in the air rises. Many people who have terraces like having areca palms because they bring tropical greenery, but do not create additional difficulties during weather changes.

Hibiscus blooms beautifully in rains

Another type of flower that reacts well to monsoon weather is hibiscus. Generally, they should be planted in well-drained soils if one expects good results from them. Increased levels of moisture and cooler temperatures in air make hibiscus more productive during the rainy period compared to dry summer months. However, occasional pruning is required to keep the hibiscus growing. Additionally, too much standing water near the roots might harm even this plant despite its strength.

4/8

Money plants grow faster in monsoon

One of the easiest plants to grow indoors and on balconies during the Indian monsoon is the money plant. Fast-growing vines react positively to humidity and indirect natural light of the rainy months. They cope well with humid weather, which makes them less prone to rot. Moreover, their cultivation does not require too much effort, which makes money plants suitable for Indian house owners.

5/8

Coleus thrives under rainy conditions

Coleus plants are known for their colorful leaves. They can be placed both inside buildings and in pots on balconies and terraces because they survive monsoon conditions successfully. Such plants should be regularly trimmed to achieve a better look. Growing quickly, coleus does not require special maintenance except watering from time to time.

6/8

Peace lilies tolerate a moist environment

Peace lilies are usually selected for gardening because they are able to grow well under humid environmental conditions. They have beautiful green leaves and bright flowers which look healthier in humid air and with indirect sun rays. As it was mentioned, peace lilies prefer slightly moist soil but proper drainage is necessary for their successful growth.

7/8

Snake plants survive under different weather conditions

Although usually connected with hot climates, snake plants can also grow well under humid weather conditions if there is no waterlogging. Thick leaves help these plants survive during weather changes. Snake plants also require little attention of gardeners so that they will not experience too many problems during the Indian monsoon months.
