Whether it's a chat with colleagues, or a live on Instagram, virtual gatherings have become the new normal – and with them comes the challenge of getting a perfect backdrop. "I'd suggest a neat, well-lit corner. I take calls from my workstation. There are few elements to avoid distraction, and a tiny indoor plant is enough for me," says Ashmita, a sales lead in a real estate firm.For Shruti Dogra, a freelance writer, nothing works better than lots of natural light. “The only element in my backdrop is a tapestry, which, I feel, is so cool," she adds.

A Twitter account called 'Room Rater', has been critiquing celebs' backdrop choices (like Meryl Streep, in pic), with suggestions for improvement. Similarly, 'Bookcase credibility', another Twitter account, pulls no punches when roasting celebs' bookshelves.
