5 mirror mistakes most homemakers make without knowing: Vastu wants you to avoid these NOW!
"Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" This is what the jealous Evil Queen would ask her magic mirror all the time in the famous fairy tale Snow White. Well yes, mirrors are more than just decor pieces. As per Vastu Shastra, mirrors have the power to influence the flow of energy inside a home. These can either make your house full of positivity or invite negativity unknowingly! A number of homes use mirrors for adding beauty to their space, but do you know an incorrect placement can also bring in negative vibes. On this note, let’s have a look at five common mirror mistakes that many homeowners make as per Vastu and what can be done.
Placing mirrors directly opposite the bed you sleep in
It is a strict no! And also one of the most common mistakes people make according to Vastu expert Raju Singh. “A lot of houses I visit for consultations, I see a huge mirror placed right opposite to the couple’s bed. Most of these couples would have a lot of arguments and relationship issues. They don’t understand that a mirror reflecting the bed can bounce energy”. When they reflect a person sleeping, it can disturb rest and sleep. It is also believed that a mirror reflecting the bed creates frequent arguments between couples, and bring emotional instability.
Instant Vastu fix:
“Relocation is the only fix, says Mr. Singh. And if that’s not possible, cover the mirror at night with a cloth.”
Facing the main entrance
“Your mirror should never face the main entrance,” says Mr. Singh. If you place a mirror directly opposite the main door, it is a major Vastu issue that can block the positive energy from entering the house. The mirror that reflects your main door is said to push the energy back out. It can cause financial issues over time.
Vastu fix:
If you really want, place mirrors on side walls close to the entrance.
Never keep broken, cracked mirrors
Our nanis and dadis would often tell us not to look at our reflections in broken or distorted mirrors for a reason. It is another Vastu mistake a lot of people make is keeping cracked, chipped, broken or distorted mirrors at home and using them everyday. It is another strict no-no. The broken mirrors are believed to represent bad energy. If you are using any such mirror, throw them out of your house today! Distorted reflections are also believed to create confusion and stress and harm reputation.
Vastu fix:
Discard immediately. Replace with a new one.
Placing mirrors in the South or Southwest Direction
As per Vastu Shastra, the ideal position for mirrors in your home should be on the north or east walls. Placing mirrors in the south or southwest direction is believed to disturb energy. The southwest zone is all about strength and relationships.
Vastu fix:
Consider relocating or keep it covered most of the time, if that’s not an option.
Mirrors reflecting clutter
It is important to understand that mirrors double whatever they reflect. So if they are reflecting clutter or negative spaces, open toilets or dustbins, they’ll just amplify this cluttered and confused energy in your house. Many bathrooms have mirrors that directly reflect toilet seats, it is considered inauspicious in Vastu.
Vastu fix:
Ensure mirrors are clean and reflect bright, and pleasant views like windows and plants.
Mirrors, when placed as per Vastu, can add positivity, beauty and growth. It can light the space and change the aura. But when wrongly positioned, it can affect sanity, relationships, and prosperity or the house.
