A Journey from Bedridden Pain to Renewed Mobility Through Yoga and Ayurveda
Draupadi Sarahu, a 50-year-old resident of Durg, Chhattisgarh, had been living with the burden of sciatica pain since 2015. What began as manageable discomfort gradually turned into a severe, life-limiting condition. In the two months before she approached Patanjali Wellness, the pain intensified to such an extent that she was almost entirely confined to her bed. Simple movements became unbearable, and even routine household work was impossible. Along with persistent lower back and leg pain, she also suffered from frequent vomiting, which further weakened her physically and mentally. In September 2024, seeking relief after years of suffering, she came to Patanjali Wellness and was admitted from 6th to 13th September under the guidance of experienced physicians. From the very beginning, the approach focused not only on reducing pain but on restoring balance in the body through a holistic combination of therapies, yoga, and pranayama.

Her treatment included hot and cold fomentation along with abdominal wrapping therapy, which helped relieve stiffness and improve circulation. Alongside these therapies, she was guided through a structured routine of pranayama such as Anulom Vilom, Kapalbhati, Bhramari, Bahya Pranayama, Udgeet, and Ujjayi.
These breathing practices played an important role in calming her nervous system, improving digestion, and enhancing overall vitality. Gradually, she was introduced to a wide range of yogasanas tailored to her condition, including Bhujangasana, Pavanmuktasana, Shalabhasana, Tadasana, Vakrasana, Ardha Matsyendrasana, Gomukhasana, Matsyasana, Sarvangasana, Mandukasana, Yog Mudra, Halasana, Chakki Chalan, Dhanurasana, Naukasana, Surya Namaskar, yogic jogging, knee and neck exercises, and deep relaxation through Shavasana. Each practice was performed carefully, respecting her physical limitations while encouraging steady improvement. Within just four days, Draupadi began to notice meaningful relief. The intense pain that once kept her bedridden started to subside, and her confidence in movement slowly returned. By the end of her stay, she experienced nearly fifty percent relief in her condition. She could lift everyday household items, perform small domestic tasks, and move with far less discomfort. The vomiting that troubled her for years stopped completely during the course of treatment, adding to her sense of recovery.
