Monsoon can cause sickness too

Monsoon is the most pleasant season of the year, but it comes with its own challenges. This is the peak time for infections and diseases due to the moisture in the air. The immune system tends to weaken, and we need a healthy diet rich in nutrients to boost your immunity and increase the metabolic function of the body.

2/9

Hygiene

Dr. R. R. Dutta, H.O.D. Internal Medicine, Paras Health, Gurugram says, “You should maintain good personal hygiene by washing your hands frequently with soap and water, especially before eating. Try to avoid touching your face with unwashed hands to prevent the spread of germs.”

3/9

Waterborne diseases

You should be careful and cautious about drinking water from unknown sources. Always consume safe and clean water, preferably boiled or filtered. Avoid consuming street food or raw vegetables that may have been washed in contaminated water.

4/9

Food safety

According to Dr. Dutta, “During the monsoon, food can spoil quickly due to high humidity. You should consume freshly prepared food and avoid eating stale or leftover food. Ensure that fruits and vegetables are thoroughly washed before consumption.”

5/9

Mosquito-borne diseases

Mosquitoes are prevalent during the monsoon season and can transmit diseases like dengue, malaria, and chikungunya. Always try to use mosquito repellents, wear protective clothing, and sleep under mosquito nets to prevent mosquito bites.

6/9

Water stagnation

“Stagnant water becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other insects. Eliminate any sources of stagnant water around your living area, such as open containers, puddles, or unused tires,” says Dr. Dutta.

7/9

Rainwater protection

Keep yourself dry during the rain to avoid getting wet. You should never forget to carry an umbrella or raincoat and wear waterproof footwear to prevent water from seeping in and causing fungal infections or foot-related issues.

8/9

Adequate ventilation

Ensure proper ventilation in your living spaces to prevent the growth of mold and fungi, which thrive in damp environments. Open windows and use fans or dehumidifiers to maintain dryness.

9/9

Boost immunity

A strong immune system helps in fighting off infections. To keep yourself healthy, eat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Stay hydrated, exercise regularly, get enough sleep, and manage stress levels to strengthen your immune system. Prevention is key in staying healthy during the monsoon season. By following these precautions, you can minimize the risk of falling sick and enjoy the rains without worries.
