A look at this woman’s weight loss journey

37-year-old Nidhi Gupta was always the slim child and weighed 55kgs for the longest time. However, after giving birth to two kids, she never took notice of her weight again. She was devastated when she found out that she weighed 80kgs. People commented on her weight, passed ageist comments and made it difficult for her to go about her daily routine. She was determined to get her life back on track and so she decided to lose weight and began her weight loss journey. Here’s how she went back from 80 to 55kgs:

Name: Nidhi Gupta

The turning point

It is heartbreaking when people around you start commenting on your weight. They begin to dictate your life, urge you to lose weight and over time it becomes difficult to take it anymore. I was told I looked old, that I had gained too much weight and must do something about it. My clothes did not fit me and it became more difficult every passing day. So, I decided to bring some change into my life. I began following a certain diet, exercised frequently and lost 25 kilos in just 10 months. Since then I have not looked back.

3/7

Diet followed

My breakfast: Sprouts

My lunch: Papaya + Watermelon

My dinner: 1 chapati + dal + salad

Pre-workout meal: 1 glass amla juice + 1 glass honey water

Post- workout meal:1 cup black coffee

I indulge in (What you eat on your cheat days): Chinese food

Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Sprouts + Fruits

4/7

Workout regime

Everyday, I walked for an hour, morning and evening and drank lukewarm water.

Fitness secrets I unveiled

I discovered that staying hydrated kept me energetic and fuller for a longer period of time, which in turn kept unhealthy food cravings at bay. Additionally, papaya and watermelon were my go-to side snacks.

How do I stay motivated?: Looking at the progress I had made since I started my weight loss journey is what kept me motivated. Apart from that, my clothes had started to fit me, which was really encouraging for me.

How do you ensure you don’t lose focus?: I tell myself I don't want to go down that road ever again.

6/7

What’s the most difficult part of being overweight?

Besides the fact that my clothes - good clothes - weren’t fitting me anymore, people’s comment on my weight, on the way I looked, is what troubled me the most.

What was the lowest point for you?: When I reached 80kgs, it was the biggest blow for me.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line?: I wish to go back to my old self, while embracing how I am today.

7/7

What are the lifestyle changes you made?

I stopped eating rice, cut down on soft drinks. It's been a year that I haven’t touched them at all and no matter how much I crave them, I just don't eat or drink them.

Lessons learnt from weight loss: I was always the slim child and even when I got married I was 55kgs, but with 2 kids I stopped noticing that I am gaining weight and reached a point when it became really difficult for me to manage my own weight and health issues cropped up too. I never drank water and hated Papaya. When I started my journey, I vowed to both of these 2 and I was really amazed how quickly it helped me in shedding my early fat.
