How this mother lost 20 kilos in almost a year

Anjali Apurv Khadamakar gained a lot of weight after her pregnancy. Because she had to look after her home and also take on her responsibility as a mother, she struggled to keep up with her fitness. Over time, she experienced physical changes, which ultimately took a toll on her confidence and self-esteem. However, after overcoming several hindrances, she finally got her fitness back on track and lost about 20 kilos in about 12-13 months. Here’s her weight loss story:

Name: Anjali Apurv Khadamakar

Occupation: House maker

Age: 29 yrs

Height: 5'7

City: Pune

Highest weight recorded: 78kg

Weight lost: 20kg

Duration it took me to lose weight: 12-13 months

The turning point

Post pregnancy, I had put on a lot of weight. Because I had to juggle my household work with the baby and everything else, it became difficult for me to maintain my fitness levels. Not only did it affect my mental health but also changed me physically. I stopped fitting into my favourite clothes and lost my old personality, which is when I decided to do something about it.

3/7

Diet followed

My breakfast:

Carb: Oat/ poha/upma/ idli/ moong chilla/ dosa ( 50 gm grains raw )/2 bread slice

Protein: 2 eggs / 2 slice cheese

Fat: 10gm oil/ghee/butter

My lunch:

Carb: Chapati/rice/ jowar roti(50 gm raw)

Fiber: Any veggies (250 gm)

Protein: Paneer(100gm)/ boneless chicken (150gm)/ soya chunks(50gm)

Fat:: Ghee/any oil(15gm)

My dinner:

Carb: Chapati/rice/ jowar roti(40 gm raw)

Protein: Pulses/ lentils (50gm)

Fat: Ghee/any oil(15gm)

Pre-workout meal: Before 30-45 min: 1 banana/ apple and black coffee( workout early in morning)

Post- workout meal: 1 scoop whey protein, 50 gm any grain and 2 eggs

I indulge in (What you eat on your cheat days): I don't have cheat days, instead I enjoy cheat meals once or twice in a month. I mostly prefer non-veg or soya chunks (momo, soya chaap, shawarma) which gives me a source of protein.

Low-calorie recipes I swear by: If I had a cheat meal for lunch, then mostly I prefer low in calories but high in protein, soya chunk salad, chicken salad so that I can complete my protein intake.

Workout regime

I love weight lifting (weight training/resistance training). Everyday I wake up at 6 a.m. I have my pre workout meal (banana and black coffee) before 30-45 min. Around 7 a.m. I go to the gym for a 1:30 to 2 hours workout. In that, I do 10 minutes of dynamic stretching, my main workout and lastly 10 minutes of static stretching.

My main workout consists of muscle workouts like chest, shoulder, biceps, triceps, back (favorite) and leg workout. I have a target of 10k to 12k steps daily without excuse.

5/7

Fitness secrets I unveiled

Consistency - I feel if you workout or diet for one or two days or just a week, you will hardly see any results. Only if you are consistent with the workout and diet (at least for 1 or two months) will you reach your desired goals. .

How do I stay motivated?: Motivation is so overrated, discipline is important. With motivation you get a kick but with discipline you get results.

How do you ensure you don’t lose focus?: I prioritize my fitness and make my routines my habits. Therefore, I don't lose focus because it is in my routine.

6/7

What’s the most difficult part of being overweight?

I think the most difficult part of being overweight was being mentally depressed, over thinking, being unhappy & conscious about my appearance. I was less confident while talking, meeting new people.

What was the lowest point for you?: There was a time when it was difficult for me to manage household chores along with the baby. I had to prepare diet food for myself and normal food for my husband. Waking up early and managing time for my workout and walking was also a task. During those days, I felt like giving up, and was very demotivated.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line?: After so much hard work, dedication, discipline, I will not let myself go back. I have a vision that my fitness would be better and stronger than today, healthy and mentally happy. I wanted to be in the fitness industry as a coach/mentor, and am currently pursuing a diploma in that.

7/7

What are the lifestyle changes you made?

I have started giving 1-2 hours for my workout. I have a balanced diet which includes carbs, protein, healthy fat and fiber. Portion control, staying active for the whole day, completing daily step targets i.e. 10k are some of the changes I have included in my routine.

Lessons learnt from weight loss: Due to fat loss, you not only change physically, but also mentally. Positivity, happiness, clear thoughts, and a positive approach towards life are some of the things that will come along.
