Weight loss: How much weight can you lose safely in a month?

Weight loss is no joke. Losing weight in a sustainable way requires motivation, patience and time, which is not easy. That is why many people turn towards fad diets to lose weight quickly. But the weight that is lost rapidly is not sustainable and comes back as soon as one stops the diet that they were following.

Quick weight loss

Rapid weight loss is not at all healthy. It can even put you at risk of various health conditions. Here is how much weight it is safe for you to lose in a month.

First things first, your body weight is not a marker of your overall health. Though one should try and maintain their ideal weight, if they are unable to do so, that does not mean they are unhealthy. Losing weight gradually is the best way to keep it off in the long run.

How much weight can you lose in a month?

As per experts, losing around 0.5 kilos of weight in a week is ideal, which makes it two kilos in a month. To do so, consume a calorie deficit diet along with regular exercise and healthy eating. Losing around 1.5 to 2.5 kilos of body weight in a month is considered healthy.

Losing more than this means you are putting pressure on your bodily functions and internal organs, kidneys especially. People usually eat a high protein diet while trying to lose weight, which puts even more pressure on the kidneys.

What happens when you lose more than recommended kilos in a month?

If you are losing 5 kilos or more in a month, it can make you feel weak, fatigued, lethargic and nauseous. If this is happening with you, you need to re-look at your diet and consult a professional for help.

When you lose weight in a healthy way, your energy levels should be adequate and you should feel healthy from the inside.
