Not every information around weight loss is true

With a weight loss plan, people should include a fact checking strategy as well. Not every information around weight loss holds truth. There are several myths related to weight loss which not only hold back people from committing to a goal, it discourages many from embarking on a healthy journey.

Here are the common weight loss myths:

2/9

Weight loss goal is linear

What many assume is that weight loss is as linear as it is spelt; there is a starting and then there is a point where you need to stop.

No! This is not true. Just as your biological ecosystem is not the same every day, the weight loss plan is also affected likewise. Some days you need to push yourself harder, some days it will be easy for you.

The biological composition also varies as per the environment, diet and stress level of the individual.

Hence, weight loss is never a linear process. It has its own highs and lows.

3/9

Supplements are effective

While this holds merit to a certain small extent, one should not rely on supplements.

No doubt, the weight loss supplement market is flourishing but solely relying on these products would do no good to the body weight.

Physical activity gives health related benefits in the long run while supplements will have a dramatic effect which will hardly sustain.

4/9

It's all in your mind

Yes, but only the will power to attain the weight loss journey. Rest of the work is completely physical based.

Obesity is a condition where the person gains more weight than what is required. In order to lose the weight one needs to control diet, follow a very active daily routine comprising exercises and gym workouts.

5/9

Eating less will help shed weight faster

No, not at all! This is the biggest misconception people have. Eating less will damage your health.

The golden strategy to lose weight is to eat properly. Skipping meals, missing out breakfast, eating light when you need to eat heavy, are a few grave mistakes people make and assume that these would help them gain weight.

6/9

Cut down carbs

No. Low carb diets are actually good for weight loss. Carbs are energy givers. Without calorie restriction when carbs are taken in high amounts it leads to weight gain.

One should be cautious about the type of carbs that are being consumed. While refined carbs like refined grains lead to weight gain, whole grains having natural carbs are good for weight management.

7/9

Fats are not good

Fats are actually good and can help in weight management if one knows how to consume it.

Healthy fat like desi ghee is very good for the body. Our body requires 44 grams to 77 grams of fat per day if you eat 2,000 calories a day.

Unhealthy fats like those found in junk foods need to be avoided.

8/9

Snacking is bad

This is another serious misconception. Snacking in between meals keeps you full and regulates your cravings.

Having nuts or fruits in between meals will help cut down the portion of your meal and in a way help you to control your weight.

Always keep your snacks healthy like seasonal fruits, nuts. Avoid eating chocolates, and junk foods loaded with sugar, salt and fat.

9/9

The more water you drink, the quicker you lose weight

This is partially true. The actual logic behind water drinking is that it keeps the body hydrated and full. Water is essential for a healthy body. It can keep the metabolism going at its own pace.

Drinking more water will keep your body full which might stop you from overeating.
