Signs you are gaining weight

Obesity is a critical health condition that has taken the form of an epidemic over the past few decades. It is driven by mainly two factors- poor eating and lifestyle habits. Getting fit is not only crucial to look attractive but to lower the risk of developing chronic diseases. The best thing to do is to start taking care of your body weight beforehand so that you do not have to go through the entire process of shedding kilos after a while. There are some sure shot signs that your weight gain is turning into something serious, and you need to take appropriate measures to control it before it turns severe. Here are five signs you need to look out for.

2/6

Clothes are getting tight

A slight fluctuation in your weight in a month or two is normal. In women, this is quite common close to their monthly menstrual cycle, which mainly happens due to hormonal changes and water retention. But if you find that it is hard to fit in your regular clothes or new clothes that you just brought a few months ago, then it is a warning sign for you. You will not be able to close the buttons, especially the mid-section or your arms will fit tight or the waist of the denim won't fit. Do not take these signs lightly.

3/6

Swollen legs and feet

Excessive weight puts pressure on the nervous system in your legs and feet that carry blood to the heart and vice versa. So, when you are overweight, the nerves are not able to carry blood properly leading to swelling in the leg and feet. In severe cases, people suffering from obesity may also have varicose veins or clots. Besides, weight gain may also lead to weight gain that could put them at the risk of a heart attack.

4/6

Fatigue

If you feel exhausted all the time, check if you have gained weight in the past few months. People who gain weight often feel tired in the morning even after getting a full night's sleep. That's because obesity disrupts the breathing flow at night, which in turn causes sleep apnea. These people snore at night and even wake up frequently, which impacts their quality of sleep and makes them feel tired during the daytime.

5/6

Breathlessness

Shortness of breath is associated with many health conditions, and one of them is weight gain. People with excess weight often accumulate lots of fat around their chest, which hinder their normal breathing. They start feeling out of breath just after doing simple household chores. Even after walking and lifting heavy weights is a task for them. In severe cases, they may even find it hard to breathe properly when they lie down.

6/6

Irregular period and constipation

In women, weight gain leads to hormonal issues that disrupt their monthly menstrual cycle. Even the period pain can be a little too much to handle. Apart from that, weight gain can also lead to the problem of constipation in both men and women. Poor sleep makes it hard for the stomach to digest food and as a result, the person feels constipated in the morning.
