​Delicious foods for Navratri​

Chaitra Navratri 2023 commences on March 22 and many people use this nine day fasting opportunity to detox and lose weight. Here are some easy and healthy recipes you can try. Make sure you do not overeat, neither do you starve yourselves. For lasting weight loss, it is important to maintain a balanced diet on a daily basis, along with exercise.

​Sabudana khichdi​

Ingredients: 1 cup sabudana, 1/2 cup peanut (coarsely pounded and roasted), 2 tbsp ghee, 1 tsp zeera, 3-4 whole red chilies, 1 sprig curry leaves, 2 tsp rock salt, 1 tsp chili powder, 1 tbsp coriander leaves, 1 tsp green chillies (chopped), and 1 tbsp lemon juice.

​How to make Sabudana khichdi​

Wash sabudana and soak it in water for about an hour. Drain out the sabudana and spread it over a thick cloth for about 1 hour. Mix sabudana, peanuts, salt, and chili powder. Heat the ghee and add zeera, lal mirch and kadhi patta. Add sabudana mixture and keep stirring over low heat for a couple of minutes. Take it off the heat, add lemon juice and mix well. Serve garnished with coriander leaves.

​Kuttu ka dosa​

Ingredients


For filling: 3 potatoes (boiled), Ghee (for frying), rock salt to taste, 1/2 tsp red chili powder, 1/2 tsp ginger (chopped).


For dosa: 5 tbsp kuttu flour, 2 tbsp arbi (boiled), rock salt to taste, 1/2 tsp ajwain, rock salt to taste,1/2 tsp red chili powder, 1 tsp ginger (chopped), 1 tsp green chillies (chopped) ghee 1/2 tsp, 2 green chillies (chopped).

​How to make kuttu ka dosa​

Heat ghee in a pan and crush the potatoes into it. Mix in the rest of the ingredients for the filling. Cook it for a few minutes and then remove the pan from heat.


For dosa, take a bowl and mash the arbi. Mix it with the flour and salt. Add some water and mix well. Add ajwain, red chili powder, ginger and green chillies and mix again. Keep adding water and mixing till the batter turns into a smooth and flowing consistency.


Heat a pan, add very little ghee on it, and pour a ladle of the batter. Spread it and cook for a few minutes from both sides. Put some filling on top and fold the dosa. Serve hot.

​Banana walnut lassi​

Ingredients: 1 cup low fat yogurt, 1/2 banana, 3-4 walnuts, 1 tsp seeds (mix of flax seeds and sesame seeds), and 1-2 tsp honey.

​How to make banana walnut lassi​

In a food processor, blend all the ingredients till smooth and creamy. Transfer into your favorite glass and garnish with chopped walnuts.
