Losing out muscle is not beneficial for health

Weight loss is a topsy-turvy road which looks much more difficult to some as compared to others. At times, the urge to get quick and effective results may cloud one’s vision and not allow them to see anything except that one goal of losing weight. Weight loss, if achieved through improper means, can lead to loss of muscle mass, which is then visible on the scale. Unfortunately, when you lose weight, you do not know exactly what component of body weight you are losing- muscle, bone, fat, fluids or waste stuff. This form of weight loss is unhealthy because of the lost muscle instead of fat. In order to retain the muscle gains that you have achieved after toiling hard in the gym, here are some tips that you should follow.

Vitamin D supplements

Vitamin d not just helps one get strong teeth and bones, but it is also important for the hormone production and regulation in the body. A hormone called ‘leptin’ is responsible for making us feel full after a meal. The effectiveness of leptin is determined by the amount of Vitamin D in the body. Studies have found that people who started their weight loss journeys with higher levels of Vitamin D lost more weight in comparison to those who had lower levels of the vitamin in their body.

Stick to your workout regime

Like there are multiple kinds of fats that exist in food items, there are also multiple types of fats that exist in the body. While white fat can contribute to obesity, brown fat is a much better type of fat that helps the body burn more calories. Regular exercise helps increase the amount of brown fat in the body by converting white fat into brown fat through a hormone called irisin.

Green tea

Perhaps all of us are aware of the fact that green tea helps lose weight. It not only helps the body to absorb less fat but also allows it to eliminate more fat. Drinking three to five cups of green tea everyday can help immensely with weight loss.

Do not obsess over genes

Firstly, there are thirty types of genes that influence the body mass index of an individual. So genes aren’t all powerful. Moreover, it has been found that regular exercise can help alter genes that control weight loss and gain trends. Research has also shown that simply believing that you are destined to be overweight because of genetic makeup is in itself a contributor towards behaviors that encourage obesity and weight gain.

Get moving

Even though exercise is one of the most important factors that help weight loss, it is also noteworthy that moving around, in general, can help weight loss. If you increase your movement, like walking or simple not sitting for long periods of time can help one lose weight. So try and move more often and ditch the sedentary lifestyle of sitting.
